Diego Costa’s move to Wolves ‘is in doubt after the striker’s work permit application is REJECTED due to FA’s post-Brexit points-based system… but club are appealing decision with ex-Chelsea star set to arrive in England TONIGHT’

  • Wolves held fears Diego Costa would not be allowed to play in England

  • Players who score between 10 and 14 points in process can lodge an appeal

Diego Costa’s proposed move to Wolves is in doubt after his work permit application was reportedly rejected.

Reports suggest the Premier League side held concerns about whether Costa – who has been a free agent since January after his Atletico Mineiro contract was terminated – would be permitted to play in England.

Now it appears those fears have been realised, with The Athletic claiming the 33-year-old did not score enough points for his application to pass, but the Premier League club are currently appealing the decision.

The report claims the 33-year-old is scheduled to fly to the UK on Tuesday evening ahead of a medical with the West Midland side on Wednesday morning.

The same outlet report an appeal hearing – which will determine whether the move can be completed – will take place at the same time as the former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid forward’s medical.

Sportsmail reported at the weekend the Spaniard was set to arrive in the Midlands for a trial this week.

Players have to score at least 15 points across six criteria to be allowed to move to English clubs in rules set out in the FA’s post-Brexit point-based system, which has been effective since January last year.
