Gladys Knight donned a long-sleeved red gown as she was seen at the Kennedy Center Honors at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, as she was one of the honorees for the occasion.

The Grammy award-winning artist, 78, wore her black locks up with diamond earrings and wore a rainbow-colored sash honorees were given.

Others honored for their artistic contributions at the annual showcase include U2, Tania León, George Clooney and Amy Grant, as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were on hand.

During a ceremony in the East Room of the White House Sunday, President Joe Biden told attendees that he had all of Knight’s songs on his iPhone.

‘We’re going to get on that midnight train,’ the president said, referencing the 1973 track Midnight Train to Georgia. ‘Because I speak for all Americans when I say we we’d rather live in your world than be without you in ours.’

The president, describing those honored as an ‘exceptional group of artists,’ said, ‘Thank you for showing us the power of the arts and We the People.’

He continued: ‘We would do well to remember today at a moment when there’s too much hate, too much anger, too much division here in America, and quite frankly, around the world. We have to remember today, as their song goes: “We are one but we’re not the same. We get to carry each other.”‘

‘At the age of 78, most people in my industry have retired, but I’m just getting started,’ The That’s What Friends Are For artist said in a statement, according to Deadline. ‘All my life I’ve been able to sing my stories.

‘I can now use this opportunity to show the meaning behind the words. Our partnership with Cineflix, sharing my life story, will allow me to leave a legacy of hard work and dedication.’

She added: ‘That alone is greater than any award I could ever receive. It’s important to leave large footprints that go in the right direction. That’s why Empress of Soul Productions was founded.’

Cineflix Productions president J.C. Mills called Knight ‘a legend and true icon,’ adding that ‘her creative ambition and artistry is unmatched.

‘Gladys is a legend and true icon; With over five decades across music, film, TV, and humanitarian efforts, her life is a beautiful mosaic that we are honored to tell.’
