TRAVELLING the world for free is the ultimate dream for lots of people.
However, the reality is that often, by the time you’ve paid for flights and a hotel, there’s not much left in the budget for a lot else.
But one TikToker has revealed how to get accommodation, and sometimes food, for free, if you’re willing to give up a little bit of your time.
Elie Stalard showed how she uses an app called Worldpackers you can find volunteering experiences all over the world, many of which will offer accommodation and food in exchange for a few hours of work per day.
Elie said: “How it works is that you volunteer some of your time a day and they give you free food and free accommodation in return.”
Elie uses an experience at a surf camp in Asturias, Spain to highlight how the app works, showing what is asked of volunteers and what they can get in return.
It shows that in exchange for four hours of marketing work a day, people can have a bed in a dormitory, discounted drinks, free breakfast and access to both surfboards and bikes as part of the perks.
The Worldpackers app is free to download, although membership costs around £35 per year.
Users can then apply for as many experiences as they wish to.
Elie ends the video by revealing she will soon be heading to Guatemala to work on a yacht.
Sun Online Travel had a look at the website to see what else was on offer, and there were plenty of exotic destinations on offer.
For example, users can stay in Martinique for free at a holistic art centre in exchange for some handyman, gardening and decorating work.
They will be able to stay in either a shared dorm or a tent, and will have breakfast, lunch and drinks provided, as well as free tours and free laundry.
Elsewhere, a wellness business in Marrakech is looking for a female web designer.
In exchange for 20 hours of work a week, the volunteer will be given a free private room, breakfast, lunch and three days off.
There are also eco programmes in Brazil looking to for people to provide their services.
This programme in Mairinque is looking for someone to do handyman work and gardening in exchange for accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Volunteers also have free access to their holistic therapies.
Meanwhile, this centre in Ubatuba is looking for a housekeeper in exchange for a room in a dormitory, breakfast, lunch, dinner and free hiking tours.
Elie’s TikTok video has been seen more than 500,000 times, receiving hundreds of comments.
Some people were really excited to download the app and give it a go.
One wrote: “OMG” I’ve been trying to find things like this! YES!! Thank You!”
However others seemed less convinced by the accommodation on offer.
One wrote: “hmmm team dorm… tempting but It’s okay I’ll stick to getting my Marriott bonvoy points.”
