Messages gets new features
With the iPadOS 16, you can edit, undo send, and mark conversations as unread in Messages. Plus, you can invite friends and family to SharePlay via Messages, and enjoy a shared activity in sync while they chat in a Messages thread.
New collaboration features have come. “When users send an invitation to collaborate via Messages, everyone on the thread is automatically added to the document, spreadsheet, or project, and when someone makes an edit to the shared document, activity updates appear at the top of the thread,” said Apple in a website post.
New smart tools in Mail
The new Remind me feature allows users to set reminders to come back to a message at a later date. They can get automatic suggestions to follow up on an email in case of no response and also receive automatic alerts if they forget to add a recipient or attachment in an email.

Safari gets new Security and Collaboration features
Passkeys, a next-generation credential designed to replace passwords, has come to Safari. Passkeys use Touch ID or Face ID for biometric verification, and are claimed to be securely synced with end-to-end encryption using iCloud Keychain.
With shared Tab Groups, users can share a collection of websites with friends and family.
The Weather App
With the new update, Weather App comes to iPad. With a tap, users can see the most important weather information, or explore maps to check precipitation, air quality, and temperature. In case of severe weather alerts, users will get notified.
Updates to Visual Look Up and Live Text
You can now tap and hold on the subject of an image to lift it from the background and place it in apps like Messages. Visual Look Up can also recognise birds, insects and statues now.
“Using on-device intelligence, Live Text can now recognize text in videos across the system, making text completely interactive in paused video frames. With a single tap on a video, users can quickly copy and paste, translate, convert currency, and more”, said Apple.
iPadOS 16: Additional features
Other features to arrive include Dictation, a newly designed Home app and a new smart home connectivity standard called Matter support, a new My Sports section to Apple News, Handoff in FaceTime, new accessibility tools like Live Captions in FaceTime, a new Magnifier mode and more.
