Melbourne wife’s horror at being told husband ‘too hot’ for her while doing live TikTok

A Melbourne business woman has called out the “horrific” comments strangers made about her appearance during a live Q&A with her husband.

Ali Clarke launched her skincare business Bondi Blades in 2016 and has amassed a following on social media giving tips and advice to other budding entrepreneurs.

But the busy mum-of-one was left “horrified” and “disgusted” after her husband Ben, who manages sales and distribution in the business, jumped in on her most recent TikTok live and it was flooded by trolls making cruel remarks.

The nasty comments from men and women included “next level” jibes about Ali’s facial features as well as claims her husband was “too hot” for her and she needed to “watch out”.

Ali said the situation left her feeling “embarrassed” but told news.com.au she wants to share her ordeal in a bid to raise awareness about online bullying.

“It was quite hurtful to have people saying such nasty things,” she explained.

“Women are supposed to support other women and for them to be coming in, saying; ‘Your husband can do better than you’, and ‘I’m coming for your man’.

“It hurt and it’s intimidating too.”

Ali said she and her husband of seven years did their best to “ignore” the streams of disturbing remarks and keep the focus on business, but eventually Ben was forced to step in.

“It was quite strange when people first started commenting these things as it is not something I usually deal with as I often go on lives by myself,” Ali said.

“It was only when my husband came on that it started. To begin with I felt embarrassed that he was seeing these comments, but then I started to feel uncomfortable.

“We tried to ignore them as best we could but when they kept coming and coming my husband told people ‘it’s not appropriate’.”

In fact, Ali was so “horrified” by what she experience, she decided to share a video on TikTok calling out the behaviour.

“My beautiful husband here decided to join in and he always draws a crowd because he’s got this amazing, vibrant personality and this beautiful smile, so lots of people start to watch,” she explained in the clip.

“The comments started to flow and there was some really horrific things, like this was next level online bullying and he was horrified that people would actually do this, while I was just taking it on the chin.

“I was trying to avoid the comments and they were just getting out of control. People were commenting on my appearance, my teeth, my nostrils, all these horrendous things.”

In the video, which showed screenshots from the live, Ali revealed more of the comments she received.

One person said: “I can’t believe that’s your wife.”

Another remarked: “You can do so much better than her.”

As someone else claimed: “You’re too good for her.”

“There were even girls saying, ‘I’m coming for your husband, you better watch out’,” she explained.

“Others were saying they think he’s ‘really hot’, it was just horrendous.

“I’ve dealt with bullying my whole life but these comments were just next level.”

Her video clearly struck a chord, with many agreeing the behaviour was “despicable” and “disgusting”.

“OMG honey I feel sick hearing this,” one commented.

“That’s so terrible, you provide so much to the business community and don’t deserve that,” another added.

As one agreed: “What the actual!! This is horrendous. I am so sorry.”

“Some people are so horrible, it’s disgusting,” another said.

    “Appalling behaviour,” one woman surmised.

Ali said one of the most disappointing things about the scenario was that TikTok had always been such a “safe space”, as she’d been able to share content as her “authentic self”.

“It’s the polar opposite to Instagram, where you don’t have to be all glammed up. You can just come on in your trackies and talk about your business and support others,” she explained to news.com.au.

“I’m not here to be judged and criticised.

“At the end of the day those people [leaving cruel comments] need to look at themselves in the mirror.”

Ali is now calling for social media platforms to “hold these people accountable” and introduce better safety procedures to prevent anonymous accounts from being created.

“It only takes one young, impressionable woman to cop that sort of abuse for something catastrophic to happen,” she said.

Bondi Blades launched Australia’s first derma razor, which gently and removes facial hair – also known as “peach fuzz” – to give a smoother finish.

It currently retails in over 1000 stores worldwide and most recently landed a deal to be stocked in Chemist Warehouse in Australia.
