In LeBron James’ backyard, Steph Curry used his monologue as ESPYs host to take a few shots at the erstwhile King. “I’m the second NBA player to host this award show,” Curry said. “LeBron James, he hosted this award show back in 2007, after losing in the NBA Finals. So yes, you guessed it, this feels better.”

That wasn’t the only joke the Golden State Warriors superstar had for LeBron. “It’s just inspiring to see that strategy of buying old superstars pay off for a local team around here,” referring to the Rams’ Super Bowl title and the Lakers’ disastrous team-building strategy. He then found 56-year-old Dikembe Mutumbo in the audience and asked if he was interested in joining the Lakers on a 10-day contract.

The Lakers weren’t his only target, as writers fed him jokes about seemingly half the sports world.

On Tom Brady and his own children:

“After celebrating three kids’ birthdays in two weeks, I finally understand why Tom Brady keeps coming back to work. Relaxation sometimes is exhausting. Speaking of Tom Brady, he’s the only guy I know who would rather get hit by Aaron Donald than hang out with a supermodel.”

On Draymond Green:

“It’s been an amazing year. But somehow I’m still getting overshadowed by Draymond Green’s podcast.”

On the Celtics:

“Proud husband of Ayesha Curry, proud son of Dell Curry, proud daddy of the Boston Celtics.” (Curry also added a line to his monologue about Grant Williams after the Celtics role player claimed Boston was the better team in the Finals.)

On Los Angeles and Miami fans:

“It’s the fourth quarter of the show, which means all the L.A. fans are finally here, appreciate y’all showing up. It also means all the Miami fans are already gone, so thanks for coming.”
