The Aussie way of life always tends to leave some expats in disbelief — whether its our laid-back attitude or unique way of words.

Whatever it is, they’re often left “baffled” and can’t help but post about their culture shock online.

One US woman, who goes by the TikTok handle, ‘beefystuu’, was so taken back by our shopping centres, she dedicated an entire clip on it, leaving Aussies in stitches.

“Shopping centres in Western Australia, or maybe just Australia as a whole, are just so much better than the ones back home,” she said in the clip.

“They have grocery stores, they have Aldi, they got this place called Coles. They got every freaking restaurant and cuisine that you can think of.”

The expat filmed herself walking through Karrinyup Shopping Centre in Perth as she spoke about her surroundings.

“It’s just so nice,” she continued. “Like, seriously I feel like I’m in Dubai.

“They have a pharmacy too in the shopping centre.”

She then came across Kmart and tried to pronounce it but struggled.

“To remind you guys, I’m at a shopping centre and they have a whole deli here … like this is a shopping mall and they have a fresh market.

    “America could never ever.”

One thing that “blew her mind” was how people walked around the centre with a trolley or basket.

“[They] put everything in a cart from one store and walk around the mall and still carry the cart — that’s not something you would see in the States.

“They have a plethora of different grocery stores in a shopping mall … it’s so cool.”

The 26-year-old then filmed herself in a bathroom — and also couldn’t believe her eyes.

“Dude, they have a whole area you can sit down and charge your phone and they got like medical spots in these malls. This is crazy, this is crazy.”

The video has racked up almost 1 million views with Aussies wondering what shopping centres in the US look like — if not like ours.

“I’m so confused about what’s in your malls if ours are impressive. I thought America would win in the retail department,” one person wrote.

“Wait … there’s aren’t grocery and chemists stores in shopping centres over there?! That is WILD to me. Definitely a thing all over Australia,” wrote another.

A third asked the expat “what are American malls like” to which she responded: “Some are really nice, but you won’t see any grocery stores or a plethora of specialty stores.

“Just a lot of designer shops and that’s it. Other ones are just down right ghetto and embarrassing lol.”

One Aussie who recently visited America described the shop situation as “annoying”.

“Hahaha I just got back from the states and it was so annoying having to go from the mall to another shopping centre to go grocery shopping or then to the pharmacy,” they wrote.

The expat responded: “It honestly is like that and some Americans are lying and saying we got this too and compare it to target, I’m like OK where did you go in the US?”

When Aussies told her some shopping centres have apartments on top, she was left shocked.

“In Sydney we have a “Mall” called Top Ryde that also has apartments on top as well as bowling, minigolf, and movie theatre,” one man wrote.

    “NO WAYYYY,” she replied.

The expat has also shared other clips about her time in Australia including trying Anzac biscuits for the first time, a sausage roll and her experiences with public transport.

“I’m going to go home and visit my family and friends for a couple of months then come back to Australia for a year or so 🙂 but I’ll be documenting my travels back home and show you guys cool stuff,” she told her followers.

Uber is set to fork out a whopping $272 million to Australian taxi drivers in a historic world-first-class action settlement.

The US company has agreed to compensate taxi and hire car drivers, operators and licence holders after they lost income when Uber hit the Australian market.

Michael Donelly, Principal Lawyer at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, who filed the 2019 class action, said the settlement comes after a gruelling five-year legal battle.

“Uber fought tooth and nail at every point along the way, every day, for the five years this has been on foot, trying at every turn to deny our group members any form of remedy or compensation for their losses,” Mr Donelly said in a statement.

“But on the courtroom steps and after years of refusing to do the right thing by those we say they harmed, Uber has blinked, and thousands of everyday Australians joined together to stare down a global giant.”

Mr Donelly said the class action settlement is the fifth largest in Australian legal history, “putting beyond any doubt that Uber has been held to account for its actions”.

“This case succeeded where so many others have failed. In Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, cases were brought against governments and all of them failed,” he said.

“What our group members asked for was not another set of excuses – but an outcome – and today we have delivered it for them.”

In a statement to news.com.au, an Uber spokesperson said Uber is regulated across the country is recognised by governments as an “important part of the nation’s transport mix”.

“When Uber started more than a decade ago, ridesharing regulations did not exist anywhere in the world, let alone Australia. Today is different, and Uber is now regulated in every state and territory across Australia,” the statement read.

“The rise of ridesharing has grown Australia’s overall point-to-point transport industry, bringing with it greater choice and improved experiences for consumers, as well as new earnings opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Australian workers.

“Since 2018, Uber has made significant contributions into various state-level taxi compensation schemes, and with today’s proposed settlement, we put these legacy issues firmly in our past. We will continue focusing on helping the millions of Australians who use Uber get from A to B in a safe, affordable and reliable manner.”

Melbourne taxi driver, Nikos Andrianakis, was the chief plaintiff in the class action, which grew to include 8000 taxi and chartered drives.

Mr Andrianakis previously told the ABC he was forced out of business after Uber surged in Australia, claiming the US company “came to our shores illegally, like pirates (and) they broke every law, every regulation”.

He told the publication he walked away from the job after working on a Friday night in Melbourne following an MCG game.

“I was outside the Swan Hotel and, normally, this is a very busy time for taxis,” he said.

“I saw Ubers picking up and dropping off. Picking up and dropping off. I must have been there about an hour.

“My back door finally opened and a young lady got in and she said ‘look, I’m sorry driver, I’m not going far’ … I said ‘that’s OK, you got in my cab I’ll take you anywhere you like’.”

“She said, ‘I would have got an Uber, but my phone’s gone flat’. And that was like a stake in my heart.”

That night, he said he rang his wife, telling her “the taxis are finished”.

Mr Donelly said Maurice Blackburn Lawyers are “extremely proud that thousands of people put their faith in us and Nick Andrianakis and allowed us to do what we do best – holding to account major organisations that we say inflicted mass wrongs on people.”

He added the $271.8 million payout will “finally put real money back into the accounts of people who have been devastated”.

The Supreme Court of Victoria is expected to sit on Monday morning to close out the case.

It comes amid controversy about “cowboy” cab drivers in Victoria being caught flouting new state laws requiring them to turn on meters for unbooked trips and hailed rides.

A NCA Newswire investigation found 90 per cent of cab drivers surveyed charged upfront costs and said they would not use the meter or refused service for what they considered was a short trip.

Twenty cabs were approached at the Crown Casino, Commercial Rd, Flinders St Station and Southern Cross Station taxi ranks at various times between December 13 and 18.

Some drivers from the Crown Casino taxi rank were demanding prices as high as $100 for a trip to South Melbourne early on Sunday.

Outside clubs along Commercial Rd, some drivers were seen misleading customers by suggesting they offered a “fixed fare” or “prepaid” service only.

“The meter does not have to be running,” one cab driver told NCA Newswire.

However, drivers choosing not to use the meter for trips are in breach of new rules that came into effect on September 28 last year.

Victorian Taxi Association director Peter Valentine said cab drivers were totally aware of the rule changes enforced this year, but he found they were “refusing to be compliant”.

Since the deregulation of the Victorian taxi industry in 2017, and following the Covid-19 lockdown years, Mr Valentine said cab drivers had formed their own self-serving lifestyles, going in and out of shifts whenever they wanted.

“They are going to flout the law until they get caught,” he said.

An influencer has come under fire for posting about a “slum tour” in India with viewers branding her clip as “tone deaf”.

Tara Katims, 24, who is known for her travel content with 2.1 million ‘likes’ on her TikToks, recently travelled to India where she documented her experiences.

In one of the videos from December which has since resurfaced, she spoke about her time in Mumbai including having done a tour of a “slum” that she was originally hesitant to do.

In the clip which has been viewed almost half a million times, Tara said she was “so nervous” but was “so glad” she went on the tour, adding that it’s something tourists should consider doing when visiting Mumbai.

However, her clip has backfired with some slamming the US influencer for “promoting poverty”.

“If you’re the kind of person that likes to stay in touristy spots when they travel, this probably isn’t for you,” she began the clip.

“I saw this listing on Airbnb for a tour that’s given by a man who actually used to live in the slums himself.

“His motivation behind starting these tours was to help break the stigma that comes with growing up in the slums. People can be denied jobs after growing up in the slums and so much more.

“The tour takes you through the different industries in the slums and you get to see daily life there and you get to learn a little more about the NGOs and organisations that are going in there to try to help it.”

She said while you can “easily come to India and only see the beautiful parts, the reality is, this is how most people in Mumbai live”.

According to the Airbnb listing, the ‘Dharavi slum tour’ costs 6 Euros ($A10) with Tara adding that profits are “reinvested back into the community”.

Her clip has continued to spark division with viewers branding it “tone deaf”.

“The vocal fry narration is perfect for this tone deaf post,” one viewer wrote.

“This is so tone deaf! Those are people living normal lives and you think it’s a good idea to walk around their home and have the audacity to call it ‘slum tour’,” said another.

One viewer hit back: “Well considering that it is literally the slums, and she’s touring it, a “Slum Tour” sounds like a pretty appropriate name.”

A furious viewer wrote that her comment about “most people in Mumbai living like this” was the “furthest away from reality”.

“Absolutely not how “most” of the people in Mumbai live. This is a large slum but just one small area of Mumbai. At least try to be accurate.”

Another person said they will never understand why “westerners think poverty tourism content is a good idea”.

One viewer said they understand the intention behind the video “but calling it a slums tour gives the whole idea a really poor taste”.

“Using the world SLUMS tour is NOT going to help break the stigma,” another demanded.

But not saw Tara’s clip in bad light with many agreeing with her stance.

“I did this last month, was one of the best and most insightful things I’ve done and the money gets reinvested!” one viewer wrote.

“Awareness and supporting the community is so important. I’m sorry these commenters don’t understand that,” another said in her defence.

When one woman commented “it sounds like it would be exploitative” Tara said she “thought the same thing” until she read more about the guide’s story.

According to the Airbnb listing, the tour goes for two hours and is hosted by Jitendra, who grew up in Mumbai.

“Dharavi is the largest slum in India. We would love to give you an educational insight of the area, by visiting different neighbourhoods and discussing everyday life and social issues of the locals,” he writes on the listing.

“We start our tour from the working district where you will be able to see locals engaged in different professions and jobs and other half we will tour the residential area.”

It has an average rating of 4.98 stars from 300 reviews – aiming to “dispel the negative image of the slum and plan to put part of the profits from tour for social activities”.

Dharavi is a residential area in Mumbai, and is often considered to be one of the world’s largest “slums” with a population of about 1 million, according to Times of India.

In 2019, The Telegraph reported that tours of the area had become India’s “most popular” tourist attraction, despite controversy over the ethics of taking part.

‘Slums’ are areas of densely packed housing and are often associated with poverty and

many no longer use the word due to its derogatory associations and negative connotations.

In the book Slums: The History of a Global Injustice, Australian academic Alan Mayne argues that the term is so freighted with historical distortions that it should be retired, Bloomberg reported.

JetBlue Airways told staff on Tuesday that it is culling a host of routes, making it the carrier’s latest move to cut costs in the wake of a failed attempt to acquire Spirit Airlines and a Pratt & Whitney engine issue that has grounded some of its Airbus planes.

The carrier will reduce its departures from Los Angeles International Airport from about 34 a day to 24, focusing on profitable transcontinental routes that include its Mint business class cabin, according to a memo to staff, which was seen by CNBC. Cuts include service from Los Angeles to San Francisco; Seattle; Miami; Las Vegas; Reno, Nevada; and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

JetBlue is also ending flights to Bogota, Colombia; Quito, Ecuador; Lima, Peru; and Kansas City, Missouri, in June, and flights between Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Austin, Atlanta, Nashville and Salt Lake City as well as between New York and Detroit.

“With less aircraft time available and the need to improve our financial performance, more than ever, every route has to earn its right to stay in the network,” Dave Jehn, vice president of network planning and airline partnerships, said in the memo.

Along with transcontinental flying, JetBlue said it will focus on “bread and butter” routes along the East Coast, and those serving Caribbean vacation destinations.

CEO Joanna Geraghty is a month into the top job and is under increasing pressure to reduce expenses and return the airline to profitability after activist investor Carl Icahn disclosed a nearly 10% stake in the carrier last month and won two board seats.

JetBlue had already begun a cost-cutting program before Icahn’s stake and said in January that it was on track to reduce expenses by $200 million by the end of the year. The carrier trimmed some other routes earlier this year, CNBC reported.

The changes announced Tuesday don’t affect JetBlue’s planned capacity for the year, which it expects to be down in the low single digits from 2023, the memo said.

JetBlue is charting its path as a stand-alone airline after a judge blocked its plan to purchase Spirit Airlines in January. JetBlue walked away from that deal entirely earlier this month. Last year, a separate judge knocked down its partnership with American Airlines in the Northeast.

Former US president Donald Trump is facing a nightmare financial scenario, with the court-imposed deadline fast approaching for him to front up a massive bond, and his lawyers now insisting he cannot provide it.

Mr Trump is under court order to pay the $US454 million bond (about $700 million) after losing his civil fraud trial in New York. The state’s Supreme Court found he and his business, the Trump Organisation, had chronically misrepresented the value of their assets to fraudulently secure more favourable loans and interest rates.

“In order to borrow more and at lower rates, the defendants submitted blatantly false financial data to accountants, resulting in fraudulent financial statements,” Justice Arthur Engoron wrote in his judgment.

“Their complete lack of contrition and remorse borders on pathological. They are accused only of inflating asset values to make more money. The documents prove this over and over again. This is a venial sin, not a mortal sin.

“Yet the defendants are incapable of admitting the error of their ways.”

Justice Engoron concluded that Mr Trump and his business were “likely to continue their fraudulent ways” unless the court imposed “significant injunctive relief”. Hence the whopping financial penalty.

If Mr Trump wishes to continue with an appeal against the judgment, he must either pay the full amount or secure a bond by Monday, March 25.

In that event, an insurance company would guarantee the amount owed under the judgment in return for a fee, and would then owe that amount to the court, should Mr Trump’s appeal fail.

Without a bond, New York’s Attorney-General Letitia James could begin to seize some of Mr Trump’s real estate assets.

In a court filing on Monday, the former president’s legal team said it had proven “practically impossible” to secure a bond of such an immense size, and claimed to have approached 30 insurance companies, without success, as part of its “diligent efforts”.

“The amount of the judgment, with interest, exceeds $US464 million, and very few bonding companies will consider a bond of anything approaching that magnitude,” his lawyers said.

They included supporting testimony from Gary Giuletti, an executive at the insurance firm Lockton Companies, who said Mr Trump’s efforts “included reaching out to virtually every major surety in the market and spending countless hours negotiating with one of the largest insurance companies in the world”.

“Despite scouring the market, we have been unsuccessful in our effort to obtain a bond for the judgment amount,” Mr Giuletti said.

“Obtaining an appeal bond for $US464 million is a practical impossibility under the circumstances presented.”

Mr Trump’s cause is not helped by the nature of the judgment against him. Securing a bond would require him to provide an insurance company with information about his finances – the very same sort of information he’s lied about in the past, according to the court ruling.

Ms James has indicated she’s more than willing to seize Mr Trump’s assets.

“We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers,” she said.

Trump goes on angry posting spree

Mr Trump himself wrote about the case repeatedly on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Tuesday morning, publishing nine separate posts in the space of two hours.

“The only FRAUD in the Peekaboo James case, our failed and disgusting New York State Attorney-General, was her convincing ‘Judge’ Arthur Engoron to put a value on Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, of just $18 million, when it is worth 50 to 100 times that amount,” Mr Trump said.

“This was fraudulently and illegally done, working closely together in a corrupt Communist system, to set their NARRATIVE after learning that their Values and Facts were completely wrong. Businesses will flee the state as Migrant Crime and Violence continues to flourish. I paid $300 million in Taxes, and this is what I get. WITCH HUNT!!!”

In his ruling, Justice Engoron noted that an independent assessor had appraised the market value of Mar-a-Lago at between $US18 million and $US27.6 million. Mr Trump, however, had claimed its value was somewhere between $US426.5 million and $US612 million – described by the judge as an overappraisal of “at least 2,300 per cent”.

Mr Trump’s current insistence that Mar-a-Lago is worth “up to 100 times” the $US18 million appraisal would put its value at $US1.8 billion.

“Any business thinking about moving into New York State is CRAZY!” Mr Trump continued.

In his subsequent posts, he described Justice Engoron as a “Crazed, Trump Hating, Rogue Judge”, insisted “I DID NOTHING WRONG!”, and claimed that being required to put up a bond before finishing his appeal was “a first”.

“I shouldn’t have to put up any money, being forced by the Corrupt Judge and AG, until the end of the appeal. That’s the way the system works!”

Appeal bonds are in fact common in US law, and are imposed to ensure the party appealing a court’s decision – in this case, Mr Trump – will pay the required amount if his appeal fails.

“The Corrupt Political Hacks in New York, Judge and AG, are asking me to put up massive amounts of money before I am allowed to appeal the ridiculous decision. Never done before,” Mr Trump claimed.

“No jury, no victim, full disclaimer clause, happy banks. ELECTION INTERFERENCE! WITCH HUNT!”

Mr Trump did not request a jury in his fraud trial. Justice Engoron said he would not have granted such a request anyway, as the state was seeking an equitable remedy – a clawback of ill-gotten financial gains – as opposed to damages, of the sort awarded to E. Jean Carroll in her defamation trial against the former president.

Many crimes do not involve specific “victims”. For example, you can be prosecuted for driving while drunk even if you get home safely, without harming anyone. Technically this is a victimless crime, yet you are still breaking the law.

Mr Trump was accused of inflating and deflating the value of his assets to gain an unfair competitive advantage, in the form of better loans or tax arrangements. Again, while there is no specific victim, this is illegal.

    ‘This is an outrage’

New York University law professor Ryan Goodman, appearing on CNN to discuss Mr Trump’s dilemma, was asked what would happen if Mr Trump failed to pay up.

“Then Letitia James seizes his property, puts liens on all of his assets and bank accounts,” Prof Goodman said.

“That is not restricted to New York. So (Ms James) probably, at this point, understands where he has different assets in Florida. Mar-a-Lago, and elsewhere.

“It would be fought out in some part of the courts. But for that period of time, (the asset) really becomes unusable. And how does he get any additional business going when these are under foreclosure, or are being seized by the courts?”

Meanwhile former Trump aide Stephanie Grisham, who served as one of his White House press secretaries, said the self-described billionaire’s struggle to front up the necessary money would be “very, very hard on his ego”.

She nominated 40 Wall Street, a property Mr Trump owns in New York, as the one he’d be most likely to sacrifice.

“I mean, he would hate it. But I think if (Ms James) tried to seize Mar-a-Lago or Bedminster or Trump Tower, even, I mean those are his babies,” said Ms Grisham.

“Any of the properties with golf courses, I think, would absolutely devastate him. It will be interesting to see what she goes for.”

There is building resentment at the situation from Mr Trump’s supporters, who feel the case against him was motivated by politics, and are now loudly wondering why his party’s biggest donors are not stepping forward to help.

“Why are there no Republican multibillionaires offering to lend President Trump the funds to file his appeal in the outrageous case?” said Mark Levin, a conservative broadcaster.

“Are none of them liquid enough to help, or join with others to help? This is an outrage.”

In a dark warehouse located on a backstreet of an up-and-coming art district in Seoul, rows of people clutching cameras and phones crammed together, all waiting for one very important person.

While you’d be forgiven for thinking a famous K-Pop star had caused this eager crowd to gather, it was actually British inventor, Sir James Dyson.

The founder of UK tech giant Dyson had flown into the beauty capital of the world to unveil the brand’s latest product innovation, a $749 hair dryer he told news.com.au will create a whole new beauty “trend”.

Revealing the Supersonic Nural to the room, Mr Dyson explained it was the firm’s “most intelligent hair dryer” yet, containing a new sensor technology that protects scalp health by reducing heat and airflow as the smart device comes near your head.

“We were worried about the heat hair dryers are capable of generating and the damage it does, so it was really a way to stop people accidentally overheating their hair and overheating their scalp,” he told news.com.au at the global launch.

“So we were looking for a way to still dry quickly, while overcoming this problem of damaging hair.”

Body part we can’t see that is ‘accidentally’ damaged

Extreme heat can rob your hair and scalp of moisture, which in turn can lead to scalp irritation and redness. This can also cause dandruff.

When in “scalp protect mode”, the device will automatically reduce its temperature to 55 degrees Celsius – the optimum temperature for scalp comfort and drying speed according to Dyson – as the dryer gets closer to the head.

This is done through a ‘time of flight’ sensor, which projects an invisible infra-red beam to measure the distance between the machine and your hair, meaning no matter how far away the tool is from your head, you will feel the same temperature.

An LED light will also automatically change colour as the temperature changes, with yellow reflecting a low heat is being used. It turns orange when medium heat is being applied and red when heat is high. This is determined depending on the distance the machine is from the head.

Despite historically being an area easily ignored, scalp care is a beauty trend that has “exploded” in recent months in Australia, with Google searches on the topic up over 250 per cent in the past 12 months, according to a new report.

But if you thought the “skinification” of haircare was a fad that would soon fizzle out, Dyson’s latest product proves it’s here to stay.

“We’re developing technology all the time that solves problems, but if you stick to tech that is basic, it will embrace any trend,” the chief engineer explained.

“I hope sometimes we also create trends.”

Indeed, there’s no other hair dryer on the market armed with technology to cater for scalp health, a feature that’s sure to be imitated by rivals in no time.

Why Dyson ‘dupes’ are bad for consumers

Dyson is arguably one of the most “duped” brands in the world, a term coined to describe the Gen Z habit of finding cheaper alternatives to luxury products, with knock-offs of the tech giant’s products regularly going viral on social media.

“It’s certainly not flattering, but it’s the way the world is,” Mr Dyson said.

“It’s very unfortunate for the consumer actually because they’re not getting choice. If companies that copied actually developed their own technology, then a customer would have good choice.

“But unfortunately intellectual property isn’t strong enough to stop people essentially copying others. You wouldn’t put up with it in the music world, you would call it ‘immoral’, but it is accepted in our world and other companies are unscrupulous to that.

    “They unashamedly copy things.”

Despite his clear frustration at the rise in Dyson “dupes”, it hasn’t deterred the firm from continuing with its $885 million commitment to developing 20 new beauty products in the next four years.

The first was a “game-changing” new hair straightener, the Dyson AirStrait, which was announced last year that uses airflow to smooth and dry hair in one go.

The technology, which Mr Dyson described as one “no one has done before”, has yet to arrive in Australia despite launching in the UK and US in June.

Dyson also recently showcased an “entirely new” hair drying tool for professionals backstage at New York Fashion Week – the “Dyson Supersonic r Professional”.

The “unique” shaped hair dryer is only for hair experts, with the device created to help prevent strain related injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome which are highly prevalent within the hair expert community.

Cult Dyson hair dryer gets upgrade after 8 years

The Supersonic Nural is the latest addition the brand’s beauty line-up, and also features new and improved attachments which cater to all hair types that are equipped with “attachment learning”.

“This means it recognises the attachment that is on the device and adjusts the setting accordingly,” Mr Dyson explained.

“It also will remember the setting the next time you use it, and has pause detect so it knows when you momentarily place the device down and eliminates the need for you to constantly switch it on and off.”

Mr Dyson promised the new features to the cult Supersonic hair dryer – which originally launched in 2016 – will completely change how we dry our hair.

But if you’re not in the mood to use the new Scalp Protect feature, you can turn it off using a switch at the top of the end cap.

The insane new hair dryer, which left many gasping “wow” at the launch in South Korea on Monday, launches in two colours – Ceramic Patina and Topaz or Vinca Blue and Topaz – on April 11.

It comes with five attachments while other stand-alone accessories will be on offer.

The journalist travelled to South Korea as a guest of Dyson

Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV has reminded viewers of one questionable sketch from The Amanda Show in which a young Amanda Bynes joins Dan Schneider in a hot tub. Even All That editor Karyn Finley Thompson, who spoke out in the Investigation Discovery docu-series, found the scene to be “a little odd”.

Schneider first discovered Bynes when she was performing at the Los Angeles Laugh Factory as a kid. She eventually joined the All That cast before garnering her own spin-off, The Amanda Show.

In one sketch that has bubbled up on social media, Schneider sits fully clothed in a hot tub with a teenage Bynes, who appears to be wearing a swimsuit. He introduces himself as the executive producer and head writer of The Amanda Show, joking that he wrote the “whole conversation that we’re having right now.” Bynes asks him for a raise. He says no. Then they are delivered two plates of spaghetti, which they proceed to eat in the hot tub while the waiters dance behind them.

Thompson, who worked as an editor on All That, recalled the close relationship between Bynes and Schneider in Quiet on Set.

“I definitely saw Amanda being very close physically with Dan,” she said, per Us Weekly. “There were many times I saw Amanda sitting behind him hugging him, or giving him a neck massage. Dan and Amanda had a close relationship. I didn’t think anything different than that.”

Regarding the hot tub skit, Thompson admitted the scene was “a little odd”.

A source close to Schneider previously addressed the massage allegations, telling Insider, “[Schneider] regrets ever asking anyone [for a massage] and agrees it was not appropriate, even though it only happened in public settings.”

Scheider and Bynes parted ways after he allegedly tried to help her get emancipated from her parents while she was starring on What I Like About You, according to journalist Kate Taylor.

“There is an argument that could be made that he was trying to help Amanda. But unfortunately for Dan, this goes to court and it entirely fails,” Taylor said. “Because of Dan’s involvement in this plan to emancipate Amanda, this creates this huge split between Amanda’s parents and Dan Schneider.”

Ahead of Quiet on Set’s debut, Schneider’s spokesman released a statement.

“Dan cared about the kids on his shows even when sometimes their own families unfortunately did not. He understood what they were going through and he was their biggest champion,” the statement read, per Us Weekly.

“The fact is many of the kids on these shows are put in the untenable position of becoming the breadwinner for their family and the pressure that comes along with that.”

It continued: “Add on top of that the difficulties of growing up and having to do so under the spotlight while working a demanding job, all as a child. That is why there are many levels of standards, executives, lawyers, teachers and parents everywhere, all the time, on every set, every day. However, it is still a hard place to be a kid and nobody knew that better than Dan.”

PALM BEACH, Florida — Former President Donald Trump told Breitbart News exclusively he is considering taking up an offer for a tour from the CEO of a Virginia factory that is not producing anything right now because Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration screwed up Trump’s “Made in America” initiatives.

“Sure,” Trump said in a 90-minute exclusive interview when asked if he would consider visiting a facility owned by Blue Star NBR in southwest Virginia.

Blue Star’s CEO Scott Maier told Breitbart News recently that he would welcome Trump to come tour the facility his company built in Virginia, a place that is currently “mothballed” because the Biden administration mishandled initiatives started under Trump’s presidency.

Blue Star was created to manufacture nitrile gloves domestically. The nation goes through tens of billions of nitrile gloves every year as healthcare providers, law enforcement and first responders, food handlers, and producers of high-end technology all wear them regularly. As Breitbart News and other outlets have reported, it became clear during the Trump administration at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic that none of these gloves were made in America and the supply chain was completely dependent on foreign production of them. During the Biden presidency, too, the percentage of imports of these gloves from Communist China has increased exponentially, a trend that may have the majority of gloves being imported from the Chinese Communist Party by the end of this year.

Because of Biden administration screwups — in large part because of the Biden team’s moving of funding efforts from the Pentagon to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), as detailed by a letter sent by Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra — Blue Star and other facilities like it are not making anything despite the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars spent to get them up.

Virginia Senate candidate Hung Cao said the Biden screwups have cost thousands of jobs that would otherwise exist in Virginia. Maier said he would love to show this to Trump, especially given the fact that Biden spent a great deal of his State of the Union address highlighting the expenditure of billions and billions of dollars in spending that has not amounted to much if anything for the nation.

“I’ll welcome anyone that wants to come see all the hard work that’s been put into this, to see a state of the art facility that’s sitting basically mothballed that can produce a critical item that this country desperately needs,” Maier told Breitbart News this month. “But instead, we’re just more dependent on China than we were before the pandemic started,”

Trump, when asked about the wasted tax dollars that Biden has spent not producing anything in the country, told Breitbart News in an interview last week that: “It’s terrible.”

“He’s taking the money and he’s investing it in the Green New Scam,” Trump told Breitbart News. “All the money, instead of reducing debt, it’s invested in the Green New Scam.”

    The Associated Press

It’s not just gloves that Biden has screwed up either. A recent report shows that, because of Biden’s failures, the U.S. is dependent on foreign countries for syringes too.

Trump even said during his interview with Breitbart News that, because Biden is failing to deal with these problems, the nation is at risk with the weak supply chains for critical personal protective equipment or other major health equipment. What’s more, the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) has major flaws and weaknesses, and Biden is doing nothing to replenish it.

“Remember the masks? We were making them up in New Hampshire,” Trump said. “We were doing a great job with that. It’s the one thing I never got credit for. I get credit for a good economy, and I get credit for a good foreign policy. I get credit for a lot of things, but not on this. When I came in, I always said the cupboards were bare. We had nothing. We had no gloves, no masks, nothing. I’m not even blaming past administrations because who would have thought such a thing as a pandemic could happen? It sounded like an ancient problem. But it turned out to be a disaster, and it can happen again.”

Trump has previously said he intends to make a “heavy play” for some states that Democrats have won in recent elections, including Virginia. Back in his last long-form, sit-down interview with Breitbart News in December at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said he intends to compete in places like Virginia, Minnesota, New Mexico, New Jersey, and New York.

Two deer roam near the Blue Star NBR factory in Wytheville, Virginia, on December 8, 2023. (Allison Lee Isley for The Washington Post via Getty Images)

Republicans had won Virginia in every presidential election except one for 50 years until Democrat Barack Obama won it in the 2008 presidential election, but since then, Democrats have held the Old Dominion state in presidential races. However, one of Trump’s top campaign aides, Chris LaCivita, has a lot of experience in Virginia politics.

Trump going to visit a place like Blue Star’s facility highlighting the major failures of Biden’s spending programs and the thousands and thousands of jobs that Biden cost the people of the commonwealth could be part of the necessary magic that unlocks the state for him. Virginia has 13 electoral votes, and if Trump were to win it, it would almost guarantee he returns to the White House as it would be very difficult for Biden to coalesce 270 electoral votes without it.

Just six months after El Nino emerged, meteorologists have said the signs are all there for the climate driver to peter out within months – to be replaced by yet another La Nina.

La Ninas generally mean more rain and cooler temperatures for Australia.

If a La Nina does re-emerge it could be a worry as the ground of eastern Australia is still moisture laden from the last La Nina and that could exacerbate any flooding.

“Dramatic changes,” are occurring within the ocean to the east of Australia, Sky News Weather meteorologist Rob Sharpe told news.com.au.

“Everything is going according to plan in the Pacific Ocean for this to become a La Nina event.”

But the world’s meteorological organisations are not all in agreement.

    Weak El Nino

El Nino and La Nina are the two extremes of the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) climate driver.

ENSO phases are defined by a combination of sea surface temperatures in a patch of the eastern Pacific Ocean called Nino3.4 as well as wind and air pressure measurements.

Warmer seas in Nino3.4 are a sign of El Nino, cooler seas La Nina.

El Ninos typically bring drier and warmer conditions particularly to Australia’s east. But this time around that didn’t go exactly to plan with heavier rainfall at times.

“We saw a fully-fledged El Nino during spring, but the atmosphere hasn’t been properly coupled through summer,” said Sky’s Mr Sharpe.

The ocean in Nino 3.4 has been warmer – an El Nino hallmark – but the atmosphere hasn’t been responding in the usual way, he said. Winds have been weaker than expected during summer, for instance.

“Therefore this has been a slightly shorter than usual El Nino event in my books.

“But El Nino tends to last less time than La Nina that can last up to three years as we found in recent years.”

    ‘Dramatic change’

A key signal of La Nina is when the sea surface in the eastern Pacific cools to 0.8C below average for a prolonged period. The ocean hasn’t reached that point yet – but it’s getting there.

“The ocean is changing dramatically at the moment,” said Mr Sharpe.

“Under the surface we’ve been watching a region of colder than usual waters move eastwards and get closer to the surface over the last couple of months.”

Some of that cold water has surfaced in the Pacific, west of Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands.

“La Nina is likely to develop in early winter,” he added. Sky News Weather has put the change of a La Nina at 85 per cent.

    ‘Unusually cold water’

The US’ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is also bullish about an imminent La Nina.

Earlier this month, it stated that there was now a 62 per cent chance of a return to La Nina by June or August after a brief spell in ENSO neutral between April and June.

“A pool of unusually cold water has appeared at the surface of the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean, hinting that the foundations of a La Nina event may be lurking beneath the surface,” it stated.

That cold water region wasn’t visible in December.

However, global meteorological bodies have different benchmarks for climate drivers.

Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is more conservative with its ENSO declarations. It has a tougher criteria.

That’s what happened with El Nino, with the BOM declaring it active several months more after NOAA and the United Nations did the same.

Indeed, as of yet, it’s not actually forecasting a La Nina at all, only a move from El Nino to ENSO neutral. Although that forecast could change.

Earlier this month, it stated that while El Nino was still in play it was steadily weakening and was heading towards ENSO neutral conditions potentially around May.

But if you take an average of the world’s leading met bureaus, overall the prediction is for La Nina kicking in around August.

    La Nina effects

During LA Nina, cooler sea temperatures in the eastern Pacific push trade winds westwards which in turn moves warmer waters to Australia’s east coast. That creates more clouds and more clouds makes more rains.

“Wetter than usual weather is likely for much of Australia through winter and spring – particularly for northern, central and south eastern inland Australia,” said Mr Sharpe.

And the rain could come earlier than usual.

Western Australia is less affected by ENSO.

“The question really is – will the atmosphere respond to the cooling ocean properly?”

Or in other words, if we’ve just had a half-hearted El Nino could we be in for a half-hearted La Nina as well?

In some places even a fully fledged La Nina may not bring much extra rainfall.

“For Sydneysiders, for example, La Nina is not a guarantee of wetter than usual weather as historically La Nina has only had a small influence on Sydney’s rainfall,” Mr Sharpe said.

“However, it was part of the reason why Sydney had a record wet year in 2022.

“Flooding is a much greater concern than it was during the first La Nina event we had a few years ago because the landscape is much wetter and dams are much fuller.”

Mr Sharpe also said that global warning played a role.

“For every degree of warmth in the air, the atmosphere can hold a 7 per cent more moisture.

“This means that when it rains it’s more likely to pour.”

Australia may have only just got used to El Nino but we could swing back to La Nina in just a few months.

A woman has claimed she and a friend were ordered off an Air New Zealand flight due to their size.

Angel Harding said she “couldn’t believe what was happening” after the incident, which allegedly occurred on a flight from Napier to Auckland, the New York Post reports.

Ms Harding and her friend had reportedly been returning from a Hui (a Māori term for an informal gathering) in Hastings, having flown from Kerikeri to Auckland, and then Auckland to Napier without any issue.

The woman said she was looking out the window while the plane was taxiing on the tarmac, when all of a sudden, she felt a sharp pain.

That’s when she allegedly turned to see a flight attendant slamming the armrest down on her arm.

“I was kind of was in shock,” Ms Harding told 1News, a NZ TV network.

“I moved forward, and she started yelling to me that the pilot can’t take off unless all the arm rests were down. She was speaking to me in an aggressive manner.”

Ms Harding claimed that the flight attendant only relented when she asked her to stop. At that point, her appalled friend, who was sitting next to her, confronted the crew member over her alleged behaviour, but this only exacerbated the situation.

“She said, ‘Don’t you think you should be seated if the plane is in motion?’” Ms Harding claimed. “And then [the flight attendant] looked at both of us and said, ‘I can get you both kicked off this flight’.”

The pair soon realised she was not making an idle threat. Ms Harding claimed the flight attendant walked to the front of plane and spoke into the phone, after which she noticed the aircraft starting to turn back to the gate.

Shortly thereafter, the flight attendant announced over the intercom that everyone would need to deplane due to “an inconvenience”, before reportedly walking back down the aisle to berate Ms Harding and her friend once more.

“She came over and said, ‘You two should have booked four seats, you two should have bought two seats each’,” the distressed passenger said.

Ms Harding said she was subsequently informed that she’d have to book four seats should she ever fly Air NZ in the future.

Ms Harding and her friend, who were assisted with wheelchairs, were allegedly shuffled off to the side and left with an airport worker while the other passengers disembarked.

Kathleen Tuhiwai Wharemate, who was flying with the duo but had a separate seat, said she was devastated upon realising what had transpired.

“As I was pushed [back] out to the plane, I looked back and saw them both crying, and I was crying, and it was just so sad leaving them behind,” she said.

While the airline didn’t give an explanation for their removal, Ms Harding believes they’d been discriminated against because of their weight.

“My thoughts are they took me off because of my build, because of my size,” she said. “As to myself and our build, our size had a lot to do with it. They didn’t say it [was], they said it was an inconvenience.”

She said she found their treatment particularly jarring as she hadn’t had any problems on the flights out with the airline.

To make matters worse, Ms Harding claims she was told they’d need to rebook on another flight to accommodate them, which wouldn’t be available until Sunday due to the soaring demand.

When the pair informed Air New Zealand they couldn’t afford the ticket, the airline footed the bill. They also covered accommodations, meals and even granted them free access to the exclusive Koru Lounge while ironing out the details.

Air New Zealand even issued a formal apology to the pair.

“We are committed to treating all customers with respect and dignity and we apologise that these customers received an inconsistent experience,” an airline spokesperson said in a statement.

“We will continue to work with the customer directly to address their concerns.”

However, the airline added it “strongly recommend” passengers contact staff before boarding if they required extra space on-board, claiming flight staff would try and accommodate them if possible.

Nonetheless, Ms Harding and her friend plan to seek compensation from the airline for the humiliation and trauma they say they endured.

“We’re all humans, we’re all human, and I don’t ever want anyone to go through the trauma that we are going through right now,” she said.

Currently, New Zealand doesn’t have any laws stating plus-sized passengers have to buy another seat, instead leaving it up to the airline.

The United States doesn’t have such a law either, with policies for plus-sized passengers varying vastly from airline to airline.

United Airlines, for one, requires passengers to buy extra seats if they cannot buckle their seatbelts, take up space in adjacent seats, or cannot keep their armrests lowered while they are seated, per their website.

“If an extra seat isn’t available, you’ll need to change your flight to one that has extra seats,” they write.

On the other side of the aisle, US budget carrier Southwest Airlines boasts a “customer of size” policy, which allows overweight passengers to request a complimentary seat and forces the flight staff to accommodate larger flyers — even if that means kicking others with tickets off the flight.
