    • St. John’s was not close to making it as it was not part of the ‘First Four Out’
    • An abnormal amount of ‘bid stealers’ saw the bubble shrink incredibly
    • DailyMail.com provides all the latest international sports news

St. John’s NCAA Tournament snub was historic, as the Red Storm were the highest-ranked team in the NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) to never make The Big Dance at No 32.

The Red Storm were not even close to making the field either, as Rick Pitino’s team was not listed among the first four teams left out of the NCAA Tournament.

‘I think we all should probably never mention that word (NET) again because I think it’s fraudulent,’ Pitino told SNY on Selection Sunday as the Red Storm preemptively declined an NIT bid.

St. John’s appeared to be hoovering right around the cut line for the NCAA Tournament, with a win over UConn last Friday assuring it a place in the field. A five-point loss to the eventual-top-seeded Huskies did not move the Red Storm any closer to the NCAA Tournament.

Instead, Rick’s son, Richard Pitino, led his New Mexico squad to the NCAA Tournament with a victory in the Mountain West Conference Tournament.  NCAA Selection committee chairman Charles McClelland labeled the Lobos a ‘bid-stealer’ live on-air.

Rick Pitino is one of the best college coaches of all-time but did not make the Tournament

Richard Pitino's New Mexico team qualified for the NCAA Tournament on Saturday

If less bid-stealers were out there this season, by McClelland’s estimation, five compared to the usual one or two, the younger Pitino could have cost his father’s new team a spot in the tournament.

‘I think that we had a good strength of schedule [in] KenPom [rankings],’ Pitino told SNY. ‘We tried to play a tough schedule, we tried to do things the right way, and we didn’t get in.’

‘I never make excuses,’ Pitino continued. ‘I respect the committee for what they do. They give their time, they give their energy to it. They didn’t think that we measured up to their standards and we’ll take it very positively like men and move forward.’

The 71-year-old Pitino has led five other teams to NCAA Tournaments, tied for the record with Tubby Smith and Lon Kruger.

Should the Red Storm have landed on the right side of the bubble, the record would belong solely to Pitino.

By the Lobos making the NCAA Tournament, the younger Pitino has now led a second team to March Madness.

The 41-year-old Pitino made two NCAA Tournament appearances as the coach at Minnesota.

    Concert Reviews

Boston’s beloved punk rockers kept St. Patrick’s Day weekend rocking as loud as ever at their second of four shows this week.

Ken Casey performs with Dropkick Murphys at House of Blues Thursday. The band moved to MGM Music Hall Friday for the remainder of their St. Patrick’s Day weekend shows. Ben Stas for The Boston Globe

Dropkick Murphys, with Pennywise and The Scratch, at MGM Music Hall at Fenway, Friday, March 15

    The boys are back.

There are some artists whose work is so entwined with their roots, their music is not only a reflection of where they are from, but, in time, imprinted into the very DNA of their hometowns: Bruce Springsteen and New Jersey. The Beatles and Liverpool.

And even with Boston’s trove of legendary bands who have at some point called this place home, none have carried this city — with its storied and gritty culture and tough-as-nails attitude — more proudly on their sleeves than the Dropkick Murphys.

That’s what makes the band’s homecoming shows this weekend at MGM Music Hall outside Fenway Park so fun — and what keeps its passionate fan base coming back, year after year.

Continuing what frontman Ken Casey guesstimates is the band’s 24th annual St. Patrick’s Day hometown stand, the Dropkick Murphys threw forth a stampede of songs from their signature Celtic-punk catalog with an unrelenting ferocity and the jubilance of a massive family reunion on Friday night.

For an hour and 43 minutes, the boys romped through a setlist that dug into the band’s past and spanned their all-time fan favorites, opening with their rowdy take on the Boston College fight song, “For Boston,” and their rebel-rousing “The Boys Are Back,” and ending with the encore-closing, “Kiss Me, I’m Sh**faced,” with a jammed and bewildered venue swaying in unison.

Throughout, Casey beamed a big smile, clearly feeding off that electric crowd, his ever-present growl sounding like a battle cry during the first shots of war.

“Holy sh-t,” he said, just after six songs into the 25 on Friday’s setlist, amid plenty of crowd surfing from fans that kept the front rows alive and rocking much of the night.

“I feel bad for Saturday and Sunday night because they’re going to have a hard time topping this right here,” Casey declared.

Indeed, the show marked the second of the four-night sold-out run — following a gig at the House of Blues across Landsdowne Street on Thursday night — that culminates on Sunday’s holiday. (The Sunday night show will be available to fans worldwide, thanks to a livestream for $24.99.)

For the band, it’s hard to overstate just how great it feels to end the most recent leg of the Murphys’ tour here at home, said Casey, clearly reveling in the warmth of a Boston crowd.

After all, the fans around here are “some of the best people” to perform for, he added.

The band has been on the road touring behind 2023’s “Okemah Rising,” the second album in as many years featuring mostly previously unpublished lyrics of legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie. In June, they head out again for a sweep through Europe.

On Friday though, the focus was on Boston — and its people.

MGM Music Hall’s third floor balcony was packed for “Union Solidarity Night” — an occasion that called for a dust-off of the aptly named “Worker’s Song.”

“Of course we’ve always had the back of the men and women in organized labor and now, they’ve been coming to our shows in groups in a bunch of different cities and states. It’s been incredible,” Casey said. “Thank you, guys. We love you.”

From there, the Murphys piled on, blasting into “Prisoner’s Song” — led by the impeccably precise banjoist Jeff DaRosa and accordionist Tim Brennan — and diving into “Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya.”

The parade continued with the driving “Caught In a Jar;” the union call-to-action of “Which Side Are You On?;” and a mid-set rendition of “The State of Massachusetts” that ratcheted the show up another notch.

Keeping things moving under a steady barrage were guitarist James Lynch, drummer Matt Kelly, bassist Kevin Rheault, and bagpiper and multi-instrumentalist Campbell Webster, who helped give the Murphys some of their Celtic flair.

Bagpiper Campbell Webster performs with Dropkick Murphys at House of Blues. – Ben Stas for The Boston Globe

Casey was fired up throughout the performance, rarely stopping to stand in one place longer than a few seconds.

He did take a pause in the action at one point to blast a couple of phone-toting crowd surfers, who took selfie videos as they were carried above the masses.

Casey lamented how they made the security guards’ jobs all the more difficult when they refused to let go of their devices, even as security scrambled to safely lift them over a front-row stage barrier.

“These poor guys are trying to catch you and you can’t offer any help …  because you’re too busy taking a freaking Snapchat or an Instagram. Are you s—ting me? Are you s—ting me? That’s the least punk rock thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” he quipped. “It had to be said!”

At other times, Casey paused to offer song dedications, including one for the Murphys’ Red Sox anthem, “Tessie,” remarking how it’s now been nearly 20 years since the Sox’s historic 2004 World Series win and the smashing of the Curse of the Bambino.

Casey dedicated Friday’s rendition to “the memory of our good friend,” the late Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield, who died at age 57 in October after suffering from brain cancer, and Wakefield’s “lovely wife,” Stacy, who died in February after battling cancer as well.

The band also paid tribute to the late Shane MacGowan — lead singer and songwriter of the Irish band, The Pogues, who died in November — with a passionate cover of “Body of An American.” Casey remarked that without MacGowan, “there would be no Dropkick Murphys.”

A late-set, one-two punch of “Rose Tattoo” and “Shipping Up To Boston” left the Music Hall rattling. The latter’s iconic riff — sure to grace the streets of Southie this weekend — is every bit as biting, fresh, and thorny today as it was when it graced the opening title scenes of Martin Scorcese’s “The Departed” back in 2006.

And, unfathomably, the Murphys still had more room left before they broke through the ceiling. The closer, “Kiss Me, I’m Sh**faced,” had the place shouting along, undoubtedly louder than at any point before in the hurricane of bagpipes, accordions, banjos, and drums that blew this way on Lansdowne Street on Friday night.

Yes, Dropkick Murphys still carry the loud and unapologetic spirit of Bostonian grit and joy — and God bless ’em for that.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — The 12 finalists for the World Video Game Hall of Fame this year draw from four decades of gaming, from Atari Asteroids, played on coin-fed consoles in arcades, to Guitar Hero, for living-room rockers who compete on a plastic guitar.

Asteroids, which debuted in 1979 and Guitar Hero, which arrived in 2005, are nominated alongside 1980s launches Elite, Metroid, SimCity and Ultima, and from the 1990s: Myst, Neopets, Resident Evil, Tokimeki Memorial, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, and You Don’t Know Jack.

Fans are invited to vote online until March 21.

The Hall of Fame recognizes games for their longevity, geographic reach and influence on video game design and pop culture.

There is no shortage of contenders, according to Jon-Paul Dyson, director of International Center for the History of Electronic Games at The Strong Museum in Rochester, where the Hall of Fame is located. Thousands of nominations come in each year for electronic games of all types — arcade, console, computer, handheld, and mobile.

“Asteroids is an icon of the late 70s arcade. Myst showed the potential of CD-ROM technology in the 90s. Neopets became a staple of browser-based, free games as we entered the 2000s. And Guitar Hero, which is less than 20 years old, has already proven its staying power,” Dyson said in a news release revealing the finalists.

The three games that receive the most public votes will form a “Player’s Choice” ballot, to be counted with other ballots submitted by members of a committee of journalists and scholars with video game expertise. The top vote getters will be inducted May 9.

More about the finalists, according to The Strong:

    — Asteroids sold more than 70,000 arcade units, becoming Atari’s bestselling coin-operated game. A home version became available on the Atari 2600.

    — Elite, developed in Great Britain, pioneered innovative 3D graphics and the idea of open-world games by allowing players to control ships that roamed the galaxy.

    — Guitar Hero, with its licensed music and social gameplay, has sold more than 25 million units, earning more than $2 billion. It was launched by Harmonix and acquired by Activision.

    — Nintendo’s Metroid with its protagonist, Samus, gave the gaming industry its first playable human female character in mainstream video games. The franchise has sold more than 20 million units worldwide.

    — Myst, released by Broderbund, became the best-selling computer game in the 1990s, selling more than 6 million copies. Early CD-ROM technology offered high storage capacity but slow loading times that fit the slow-paced, contemplative style of the game.

    — The browser-based, free-to-play Neopets offered a social component that allowed players to chat with each other and form guilds. With 25 million active users at its 2005 peak, it served as a testing ground for cyber safety mechanisms and immersive advertising.

    — Resident Evil, known as Biohazard in Japan, was the first game to popularize the “survival horror” genre. Created by game director Shinji Mikami and released by Capcom, Resident Evil inspired a franchise of films that have grossed more than $1.2 billion.

    — SimCity, released by Maxis, helped expand the audience for video games by offering an urban design simulator that appealed to both children and adults.

    — Konami’s Tokimeki Memorial elevated the dating simulator genre, offering a cohesive narrative, colorful graphics and engaging gameplay.

    — Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, launched by Neversoft/Activision in 1999, led to sequels that have generated about $1.4 billion in sales. The real-life skateboarder Hawk said the game “simultaneously ignited my career and overshadowed it.”

    — Ultima, designed by Richard Garriott, is credited with helping to define and inspire the computer role-playing genre.

    — You Don’t Know Jack reimagined the television game show for the home video game market. Streaming versions of the multiplayer game saw a boost during COVID-19 lockdowns.

UK culinary queen Nigella Lawson and former MasterChef judge Matt Preston have been spotted leaving Perth bound for the East Coast following a successful show in the city.

Perth has bid the foodie icons farewell after the pair were in WA for a show at Perth Concert Hall where they discussed all things cooking.

Lawson—who went about trying some of the State’s well known restaurants at the weekend—was seen wearing a casual black outfit paired with white sneakers as she made her way to the Perth Airport terminal.

Preston, wearing a pink suit jacket, was also captured at the airport.

But unlike his fellow foodie who had someone to wheel her suitcases, the 62-year-old was left to deal with his own luggage.

The pair are now bound for Brisbane for a show on Thursday night and another show in Adelaide on March 19.

Before Lawson spilled the rhythms and rituals of her kitchen she checked out CBD restaurant Balthazar for seafood lunch she raved about on her social media.

The 64-year-old shared a picture of some mouth-watering seafood pasta dished up at Balthazar Restaurant, saying the food was a “truly lovely start to my Australian jaunt”.

She also pointed out that the restaurant was, fittingly, housed in Lawson Flats.

Owner of Balthazar Emma Ferguson said the surprise and low-key visit was a highlight of her hospitality career.

“(Nigella) was divine and lovely and we were thrilled to have her,” Ferguson said.

“It was one of my highlights from my working career, she’s one of the most influential foodies in the world probably.”

“As a woman, I love she is able to combine her feminism and sexy boss lady vibe with such grace and elegance, she’s such a professional.”

Anmer Hall, a 19th-century country house in the quaint village of Anmer, England, has long held its place as a cherished retreat within the British Royal Family.

However, recent events have thrust this property into the global spotlight, with concerns swirling around the health and whereabouts of Kate Middleton. She shares this residence with Prince William after the couple received it as a wedding gift from the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Reports suggest she’s been recuperating there following a mysterious abdominal surgery, with no expected return to public engagements until after Easter.

Theories regarding Middleton’s health also reached a fever pitch over the weekend, when a doctored family photo was released, prompting a swift apology from Middleton herself.

A source close to the situation expressed deep concern, suggesting that Middleton’s health struggles might be more serious than initially perceived.

“Something is terribly wrong,” the source told The Post. “The idea that Kate could not sit for one photo session tells me this is a much more dire situation than anyone knows.”

Despite the turmoil, Middleton was spotted briefly leaving Windsor Castle alongside Prince William on Monday.

But her head was turned away and cameras could not catch her face. The couple embarked on a journey to Westminster Abbey, marking Middleton’s first appearance in more than two months since her surgery.

Anmer Hall, with its 10 bedrooms, swimming pool and private tennis court, has long been a sanctuary for the royals and their three children, especially during the pandemic.

Moreover, it’s an escape that seems calming. As seen in property images, verdant houseplants adorn the cozy space, while cream-colored walls serve as a soothing neutral tone.

After receiving the home as a gift from the Queen, extensive renovations ensued. The work included a new roof, a kitchen, a conservatory and a redecoration of the interior.

Notably, the addition of trees surrounding the property further enhances their privacy.

From 2015 to 2017, Anmer Hall served as the couple’s primary residence, providing respite from their royal duties.

However, as they transitioned into full-time royal roles, their base shifted back to Kensington Palace.

Anmer Hall is also just a stone’s throw away from Sandringham House, the historic venue where the Royal Family gathers for Christmas festivities.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Tyson Walker scored 19 points, Malik Hall had 15 points and 17 rebounds, and Michigan State edged Northwestern 53-49 on Wednesday night, sending Michigan State’s seniors out with a victory in their final home game.

Defense controlled the final 5 1/2 minutes of the game that was already low scoring. Walker’s consecutive layups were the only baskets for either team in a 4-minute stretch and the Spartans went up 51-46 with 1:44 remaining.

Northwestern finally hit a bucket, Ryan Langborg’s 3-pointer making it 51-49 with about a minute to go. Michigan State ran the shot clock down, but Walker missed in the paint with 28 seconds left. Langborg missed a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left, then Michigan State’s Tre Holloman made two free throws with 9 seconds left. Trailing by four, Northwestern’s Boo Buie missed with 3 seconds left and Holloman rebounded to end the game.

Buie led Northwestern (20-10, 11-8 Big Ten) with 15 points and Nick Martinelli scored 12. Brooks Barnhizer had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats, who shot 35% for the game.

Holloman had 12 points for the Spartans (18-12, 10-9), who shot 32%. They led in rebounding 46-35 with 19 offensive rebounds but only 10 second-chance points.

Hall hit three straight jumpers early in the second half and Michigan State took a 28-27 lead in the first 2 1/2 minutes. Unlike the first half when their only lead was 1-0, the Spartans held the lead for six minutes before Buie’s jumper put Northwestern back ahead, 38-37.

The lead changed hands a few times and the largest lead of the next several minutes was Michigan State’s 42-38 advantage with 8:30 remaining. The score was tied at 45 with 5 1/2 minutes to go.

Buie scored 9 points in the first half on 3 of 4 3-point shooting and Northwestern led for 18 minutes of play. Michigan State shot 22% in the half and trailed 25-20 at the break.

Northwestern, which surrendered sole possession of third place and is now tied with Nebraska, hosts Minnesota on Saturday to finish the regular season.

Michigan State, now tied for sixth place with Iowa, finishes at Indiana on Sunday.

AN 800-YEAR-OLD castle in the UK is opening a brand-new immersive attraction in time for Easter.

Muncaster Castle in Cumbria attracts thousands of visitors every year thanks to its long history and family-friendly activities.

Owned by the Pennington family, who have lived in the castle for over 800 years, the Cumbrian castle was originally built in the 13th century, but it was extensively remodelled between 1860 and 1886 by architect Anthony Salvin.

During the Second World War, around 700 works of art from the Tate Gallery were stored in the castle for safety reasons.

For three decades, Phyllida Gordon-Duff-Pennington and her husband  Patrick Gordon-Duff-Pennington worked to transform the castle into a place for tourism and events.

The castle is now owned by Peter and Iona Frost-Pennington who, along with their son Ewan, are still opening new new attractions, including the Weapons Hall, which will give visitors the chance to become a medieval knight.

Inside the purpose-built Weapons Hall, guests will be able to give jousting, sword-fighting and axe-throwing a go – all under the supervision and guidance of skilled experts.

Visitors into the castle will also be able to take up archery and practice their crossbow skills.

Activities like axe-throwing and archery will last around one hour, with safety instruction and activity training provided.

Meanwhile, sword fighting and jousting sessions will last around 15 minutes.

The new experience is slated to open on March 23, 2024, and it will be suitable for guests aged 8 and over.

Inside the Weapons Hall, there will also be a medieval tavern and a coffee bar too.

A Medieval Experience Day is also launching at the castle, which will also include a private owl flying session and a private tour of the castle.

Before becoming a Weapons Hall, the area has previously been used as a bear pit and another children’s attraction called the MeadowVole Maze.

Ewan Frost-Pennington says the huge investment is his biggest gamble since taking control at the castle, and he joked that his “neck was definitely on the line”.

He added: “We can’t wait to show visitors this new attraction. I’m confident they will love it when it opens – but it’s taken a great deal of planning and hard work so I am definitely feeling the pressure! My mum who is also my boss doesn’t mess around!”

“We want people to come along with their family and friends and see if they have what it takes to become a Muncaster Knight.”

“We hope they throw down the gauntlet to each other in a contest of skill and nerve – and most importantly have the best time possible in a fantastic, themed setting.”

Visitors can also explore other parts of the castle including the Great Hall, the Guard Room and other State Rooms, which are all open to the public.

Entry tickets into the castle cost £22.50 for a full-paying adult, and £11.50 for a child.

Muncaster Castle has been praised by holidaymakers with a 4.5/5 star rating from more than 1,700 reviews on TripAdvisor.

One person wrote: “The castle always amazes me no matter how many times we visit.”

Another person added: “An amazing day out, everyone there was so friendly and nice.”

A third said: “A lovely castle, which is extremely atmospheric.”

Meanwhile, another UK castle that was once the home of a forgotten ‘warrior queen’ has been voted among the best attractions in the world.

Tamworth Castle in Staffordshire attracts thousands of visitors every year thanks to its long history, family-friendly games, and costume characters.

Here are 10 of the best castles in the UK where you can spend the night.

And one woman revealed how she stayed in an English fairytale castle for just £68 – with a medieval banquet hall & Harry Potter-style rooms.

Every day from inside City Hall, Jon Streeter serves coffee to Seattle’s most powerful people. Former Mayor Mike McGinn liked americanos, he remembers. Former Mayor Ed Murray drank tea. Streeter rarely takes orders, instead confirming each regular’s preference, often after he’s already started making their drink.

Since 1994, City Grind Espresso has been the official caffeine purveyor of City Hall, first outside the old building beneath a tent and now in the considerably more comfortable lobby of the newer space. It’s even the same cart, worn down a bit after 30 years, behind which Streeter pulls shots and steams milk.

Seven different mayors have come and gone in that period (eight if you include Tim Burgess’ brief stint) and many more council members. People have retired or lost or quit in shame and, through it all, Streeter has shown up for work around 5 in the morning and gone home in the early to midafternoon.

The only time Streeter failed to greet the cogs of city government was the year and a half between when the building locked up for the pandemic and October 2021, when he finally came back.

“I made a lot of paneer with all the milk,” he said.

It’s been a long climb since then. The previous City Council was slow to return to in-person work. Meetings in council chambers would often consist of one or two members seated on the dais and the rest towering, Oz-like, above the spacious room from a projection of their Zoom windows.

For Streeter it meant only the occasional rush of business between long bouts of downtime. He made it work with backpay from unemployment and reduced rent from the city, which was based on his total income. Though, he admits his politics may not have always aligned with Alex Pedersen’s, the former council member was one of the few to make coffee visits a regular part of his day.

Seattle City Council | Local Politics

“I have a very soft spot in my heart for him, because he probably got me through those days. He showed up every day and we’d talk about movies,” Streeter said. “He was about the only person I could count on to show up every day.”

Now there’s a new City Council, with six new members. With it is likely to come a shift in City Hall’s priorities as well as how it conducts its business. Council President Sara Nelson, who grew frustrated by her lack of relationships with past members, has made in-person work a priority, urging fellow members to take their meetings from the office and conduct committees from the dais.

“When we’re here on site it’s just so much easier to be accessible to each other and get things done faster,” she said during the council’s swearing-in ceremony in January.

The difference is palpable. A steady stream of staffers and elected officials trickle in through City Hall’s lobby, bunching at elevators and in line for Streeter’s cart. The sign in sheets to meet members, published online by the city, reflect the change: In the first month of 2023, just 37 people signed in to meet a member in their office. In the first month of 2024, 220 did. Even in the last months of 2023, fewer than 50 people a month were coming through City Hall for a visit.

It’s still not quite pre-pandemic levels. In the first month of 2020, before the pandemic, 460 people signed in to meet a council member.

Still, Streeter feels the shift. Though there’s still fluctuation based on the day, the stream is steadier.

“I think the tell was Fridays were actually somewhat viable days,” he said.

People sometimes assume Streeter must have an ear into the secrets of city government. In truth, the juiciest gossip is saved for behind closed doors, out of earshot of the coffee cart. Even political turnover feels subtle from his perspective.

What he does have is a front-row seat to the state of the city. The foot traffic that comes through the lobby of City Hall seems to mirror the outside world. As workers emptied from downtown, so too did they leave his coffee cart. And as social services shuttered their doors, and support systems failed or ran out of money, he more clearly witnessed the mental health and addiction struggles of those who maybe didn’t have somewhere else to go.

“It’s definitely a microcosm of the downtown area,” he said, adding, “sometimes that can wear you down a little bit.”

Despite the ups and downs, Streeter still likes his work and has even had talks about expanding into other public spaces, like the train station. He jokes about having a monopoly on public sector coffee.

“I can get a place in every government building,” he said.

CBSE Class 10 science exam 2024 is scheduled for tomorrow. Scoring a perfect 100 in this paper is challenging but entirely possible with thorough preparation and effective exam strategies. To achieve this feat, students should focus on understanding the concepts deeply rather than rote learning. They should also practice solving sample papers and previous years’ question papers to familiarize themselves with the exam pattern and time management.Additionally, highlighting keywords, presenting answers neatly, and using diagrams and graphs wherever applicable can help in scoring higher marks. Staying calm, focused, and confident during the exam is key. Here are the top exam hall tips for you to ace the CBSE Class 10 Science exam tomorrow.

    Read the questions carefully

Make sure to carefully read each question before answering. It’s important not to assume what is being asked. Follow these steps to ensure you understand the question fully:

    Read the question slowly:

Take your time to understand the question thoroughly.

    Visualize while you read:

Try to visualize the concept or problem described in the question.

    Read again:

After visualizing, read the question again to clarify any doubts.

    Think of the appropriate answer:

Consider what the question is asking for and formulate your answer accordingly.

    Read your answer:

While doing this, check if this is your best answer or you can do better. Also figure out if the answer needs a diagram.
By following these steps, you can ensure that you are answering the question correctly and effectively.

Use clear and labelled diagrams when necessary

In your CBSE Board exam science paper, clear and properly labelled diagrams can enhance your answers. While elaborate diagrams are not essential, they can certainly boost your overall answer quality. For diagrams worth three marks, you will receive half marks for each correctly labelled part (two marks for four labels) and one mark for neatness and accuracy. Therefore, the correctness of your diagram is crucial.

    Highlight keywords in your answers

Highlighting keywords in answers is crucial for CBSE Science examinees as it helps in two key ways. Firstly, it ensures that the examiner can quickly identify that the student has understood the question and provided a relevant response. Secondly, it helps the students to structure their answer effectively, ensuring that they are covering all aspects of the question without missing any key points. To highlight keywords, underline or use a different colour for important terms in their answers. This practice not only makes it easier for the examiner to read and evaluate the answer but also helps the students to stay focussed and concise in their response. Overall, highlighting keywords is a simple yet effective strategy that can significantly improve the quality and clarity of answers in CBSE Science exams.

Be extra cautious with numerical-based questions

In your Board exam Science Paper, writing numerical-based answers requires precision and clarity. Here are some tips to excel in these questions.

    Understand the Question:

Read the numerical carefully to understand what is being asked. Identify the given values and what needs to be calculated.

    Organize Your Steps:

Write down the formula or method you plan to use. Show all your calculations step by step, making it easier for the examiner to follow your reasoning.

    Units and Figures:

Always include units in your final answer. Round off the final answer to the appropriate number of significant figures unless specified otherwise.

    Labeling:

Label each step clearly, especially if there are multiple parts to the question. This makes it easier for the examiner to allocate marks correctly.

    Check Your Answer:

Once you have calculated the answer, go back and ensure that it makes sense in the context of the question. If time permits, recheck your calculations for accuracy.

    Neatness and Presentation:

Present your numerical-based answers neatly, with proper alignment and indentation. This enhances readability and makes a favorable impression on the examiner.

    Make your answer sheet catchy

To make their science answer sheets eye-catching to examiners, CBSE Board examinees can follow certain strategies.

    • Leave a gap of three lines between two answers for clarity.
    • Highlight important words by underlining or highlighting them.
    • Draw diagrams either in the center or keep them right-aligned. Make sure they are never on the left side of the page. If the diagram is centre-aligned, distribute labels evenly on all sides.
    • Avoid writing anything other than the question or subpart number on the left margin. If your answer includes pointers that need numbering, use roman numerals inside the page.
    • For rough work, use a separate page labeled ‘ROUGH WORK’ at the top and cross it out to indicate it won’t be evaluated. Remember to do this at the beginning of the exam to avoid confusion later.

    Manage your time well

Typically, you have about two minutes to answer each one-mark question in the CBSE Class 10 Science exam. It’s advisable to start with the last section, which is the Long Answer Questions, allocating approximately 40 to 50 minutes for a 20-mark section. If you find yourself running out of time, don’t hit the panic button. Instead, slightly increase your writing speed while making sure that you are legible and neat. For one-mark questions, you can compromise on handwriting since not too much writing is required. However, maintain clarity in the Short-Answer and Long-Answer sections. By adhering to this strategy, you’ll have ample time for revision at the end of the exam.
