Los Gatos native Kari Byron has gone from busting myths to supporting STEM education as co-founder of a nonprofit aimed at getting students more interested in the sciences.

Byron, a former cast member of the Discovery Channel show “Mythbusters,” helped launch the National STEM Challenge via a collaboration between her nonprofit EXPLR and the U.S. Department of Education, which last October started soliciting science project ideas from students across the United States and its territories. A small group of champions have been invited to present their projects at the National STEM festival in Washington, D.C. in April, including Santa Clara resident Ella Lan, a senior at the Harker School.

The National STEM Challenge after the annual National Science Fair held at the White House by the Obama administration ended, Byron said. She and EXPLR co-founder Jenny Buccos proposed the National STEM Challenge as an expanded alternative.

Open to students in grades 6-12, the National STEM Challenge encourages students to “craft a STEM project that tackles a real-world challenge,” the website states. Students submitted presentations about their projects in the first round, and a select group of finalists submitted videos explaining their ideas in more detail.

To make the challenge as inclusive as possible, Byron said, organizers decided to forego submission fees and to find sponsors to cover the cost for travel and accommodation for the April event.

“If you were on a reservation in Alaska or you were in rural Kansas or you were in inner city New York, we wanted you to participate,” she added.

The group of students selected as champions who will be traveling to D.C. this April hail from the contiguous United States but also Guam, American Samoa and Alaska. An “overwhelming” number of the project submissions also came from girls of color, Byron said.

“We really have worked very, very hard to reach every corner of the United States,” she added.

Republican Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake picked up two more Senate GOP endorsements in her bid to defeat Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz., in what’s anticipated to be one of 2024’s closely contested races.

Sens. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., and Roger Marshall, R-Kan., endorsed former President Donald Trump’s surrogate in the Arizona race in a campaign news release.

“If I learned anything from my 40 years of coaching football, it was the value of teamwork,” Tuberville said in a statement. “And if I’ve learned anything during my time in the Senate, it’s that America needs more common-sense conservatives willing to go against the grain in Washington, DC, and fight to take our freedoms back. Kari Lake is just the teammate I need beside me in the United States Senate. That’s why she has my complete endorsement.”

Lake said in a statement that she and Tuberville are “cut from the same cloth” and “share the relentless drive to save our country.”

“And he needs more America First Senators to take the field alongside him and win this country back,” she said.

Marshall said in a statement that Lake is “a straight shooter who will work tirelessly to secure our border, protect our constitutional rights, rein in inflation, and support law and order.”

“For these reasons and a litany of others, I am honored to endorse her candidacy for the U.S. Senate,” he said.

In a statement, Lake said Marshall “understands, like I do, the need to help women, save babies, and empower families.”

“In the Senate, I will work with him on improving our healthcare system, championing strong agriculture policies, securing America’s border and defending our 2nd amendment. I am proud to have his endorsement to be the next U.S. Senator from Arizona,” her statement read.

The two lawmakers join the third ranking GOP senator, Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso, R-Wyo., and Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., who threw their support behind Lake in December.

A committee that regulates attorneys in Arizona has found probable cause to take formal action against three lawyers who acted on behalf of former gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake in election-related matters, according to Arizona Central.

Orders were filed against lawyers Kurt Olsen, Bryan Blehm and Andrew Parker after an investigation by the State Bar of Arizona. All three of them were previously sanctioned by judges either related to Lake’s election challenge initiatives or their involvement in pushing for a hand count of ballots in the previous year.

Those cases, along with the conduct that resulted in sanctions, largely formed the foundation of the state bar’s investigations. Their penalties could include a period on probation, reprimand or disbarment, the outlet reported.

Blehm and Olsen are implicated in a case stemming from a May ruling by the Arizona Supreme Court, which mandated they pay a $2,000 sanction for making false statements in Lake’s legal challenge to her electoral defeat against Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs. This ongoing case has seen a year’s worth of court rulings favoring Hobbs, with Lake persistently pursuing an appeal.

The state’s highest court found that the pair had repeatedly made false claims that it was an “undisputed fact” that about 35,000 ballots were illegally added to the results of the 2022 gubernatorial cycle in Maricopa County.

The court wrote that Lake failed to present any evidence to support the claim and sanctioned Lake and her team for making “false factual statements to the Court.” Records within the state bar’s complaint file indicate that Olsen’s law firm paid the sanction on May 11.

Regardless of this, Blehm’s response to the bar, more than a month later in June, claimed he had never been sanctioned. Both Blehm and Olsen told state bar investigators that 35,000 ballots were indeed added to the count, emphasizing that this was not a matter of dispute.

“When a court already has sanctioned a lawyer for violations, there is a presumption that the lawyers has engaged in the misconduct and such determination would weigh heavily against the lawyer in any investigation undertaken by a professional disciplinary body making a determination whether the lawyer engaged in ethical misconduct,” Bennett Gershman, a former New York prosecutor and law professor at Pace University, told Salon.

Blehm is facing an additional complaint regarding a tweet he shared on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. His tweet alleged that the CIA and the Department of Justice colluded to pressure the Arizona Supreme Court into establishing a misinformation board. According to his claim, the board’s purpose was to dissuade attorneys from pursuing legitimate cases of election fraud.

The committee issued another order, determining probable cause against Parker and Olsen in a case they initiated on behalf of Lake and former Secretary of State candidate Mark Finchem. This legal challenge questioned the use of electronic ballot-counting machines in the election in which both candidates were participating.

The trial court initially dismissed the case in August 2022, referring to their claims as “vague” and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals concurred with the trial court and also threw out the case on Oct. 16, The Arizona Mirror reported

Joe Hengemuehler, the chief communications officer for the Bar, said that Blehm and Parker could face different consequences compared to Olsen because they hold licenses in Arizona, while Olsen does not.

Possibilities include the cases being dismissed, or the attorneys might be directed to participate in a diversion program as an alternative to disciplinary measures. They may also face an order of admonition, be placed on probation, or be mandated to pay restitution, according to The Arizona Mirror.

PHOENIX — A judge has rejected Kari Lake’s request to examine signed ballot envelopes of 1.3 million early voters, giving the defeated Arizona Republican candidate for governor another loss in her third trial related to last year’s election.

In an order filed Thursday, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge John Hannah Jr. argued their release would undermine the ballot verification process in future elections.

“The broad right of electoral participation outweighs the narrow interests of those who would continue to pick at the machinery of democracy,” Hannah wrote.

The majority of the two-day bench trial was spent hearing testimony from Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, who is named as a defendant. Richer explained Lake’s initial request to see the envelopes was turned down because state law mandates ballot envelope signatures remain confidential.

“We can’t release this, which is why we’ve said no to this plaintiff and others as well. It’s not discriminatory,” Richer said when questioned by attorneys for the county.

In Arizona, the envelopes for early voting ballots serve as affidavits in which voters declare, under penalty of perjury, that they are registered to vote in the county, haven’t already voted and will not vote again in that election. Releasing the ballot affidavit envelopes could have a “chilling effect” and lead to some voters either not voting or deliberately not signing their ballots, Richer said.

Bryan Blehm, the attorney representing Lake, argued that there are other documents with people’s signatures that are available to the public, such as property deeds. Signatures are already out in the open and “in the stream of commerce,” he said.

Lake previously lost two trials that challenged her loss to Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs by more than 17,000 votes. In the second trial, a judge rejected a misconduct claim Lake made about ballot signature verification efforts in Maricopa County, home to Phoenix and where more than 60% of the state’s voters live.

The former TV anchor’s latest case doesn’t challenge her defeat but instead is a public records lawsuit that asks to review all early ballot envelopes with voter signatures in Maricopa County, where officials had denied her request for those documents.

Lake is among the most vocal of last year’s Republican candidates promoting former President Donald Trump’s election lies, which she made the centerpiece of her campaign. While most other election deniers around the country conceded after losing their races in November, Lake did not. She is openly considering a run for the U.S. Senate and is regarded as a contender to be Trump’s running mate in his 2024 campaign.

Her biggest attempted detente so far is with Karrin Taylor Robson, her 2022 primary opponent whom she once strongly insinuated was a gold digger using her husband’s money to try to buy Arizona’s governorship.

Lake and Robson met in Phoenix in late October to discuss putting their 2022 race behind them and they agreed to stay in contact, according to two people familiar with the discussions who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss them. A person close to Lake described the conversation as “productive” while a person close to Robson called it “cordial.”

It’s a sharp pivot after a brutal midterm in which Lake bragged after her primary win that she “drove a stake through the heart of the McCain machine,” told an opponent he was “okay with special needs kids being” sexually assaulted and tweeted that Robson was “trying to buy the election with her 95-yr-old husband’s millions.”

Lake’s bid to make nice could pay off if it at all weakens Sinema’s appeal with the more moderate wing of the Republican Party. Sinema has not decided whether she will run but she has strong relationships with centrist Republicans in the state, particularly those in the mold of the late Sen. John McCain. “Kari Lake is willing to reach out and talk to anyone who wants to help unite the party so that Republicans can win Arizona back,” said Garrett Ventry, a senior adviser to Lake.

The “McCain Republicans” orbit was at odds with Lake throughout last year’s campaign. They pose a particular threat to Lake if Sinema decides to enter the race. That would make it a three-way contest with Rep. Ruben Gallego, the likely Democratic nominee, and Lake would need to consolidate as much GOP support as possible to win.

Republicans need between one and two seats to flip the Senate — depending on who wins the White House — and Arizona could play a crucial role in determining who controls the chamber. Initially skeptical of Lake’s candidacy, national Republicans are beginning to embrace her, especially because she is likely to win the primary.

But it’s unclear that her efforts could woo moderate Republicans in Arizona will work.

“Will those traditional Reagan-McCain voters trust the new Kari Lake? That’s a good question,” said Kirk Adams, a Republican former Arizona state House Speaker. “She went out of her way to offend that group of voters, and she wore it as a point of pride, and I don’t know if people will change their opinion of her.”

And Lake’s overtures could anger her fervently MAGA — and anti-establishment — base.

Besides Robson, Lake has been in contact with Kathy Petsas, a GOP activist in the state and she’s also contacted an ex-Sinema opponent, former GOP Sen. Martha McSally, according to a person familiar with her strategy. She plans more outreach in the coming weeks.

But so far she has not broached some of the biggest players in the Arizona GOP.

She has not made contact with former Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, according to a person familiar with their interactions. And Sharon Harper, a consigliere for Cindy McCain, the widow of the late senator, said Lake has not reached out to her. Harper is fundraising for Sinema.

“I’m supporting people that I think are the middle-of-the-road leaders for our state. I think that really is the profile of Arizona,” she said.

Asked whether she would meet with Lake, Harper demurred: “I’m focused on other things right now.”

Robson, a former member of the Arizona Board of Regents, is an ally of Ducey and the wife of a real estate magnate. She lost to Lake by 5 points in the primary, and Lake went on to lose narrowly to Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs that November.

Lake has already begun efforts to consolidate Republican support in Washington. She’s been in contact with Senate Minority Whip John Thune, the second highest-ranking Republican in the chamber, and has been texting with Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), who leads the Senate GOP campaign arm, according to people familiar with their interactions.

“She’s off to a really strong start,” Daines said in a brief interview. “She’s going to win that primary.”

At a recent meeting of Senate Republicans, Sen. Lindsey Graham urged his colleagues to unite behind Lake, according to two people present in the room. One member of leadership, Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) has already endorsed her. Both men were friends of McCain during his time in the Senate.

Republican Senate leaders have urged Lake to focus on the present election and drop mentions of election fraud — a pivot she made in her October launch event. Daines praised her launch speech, according to a person familiar with his comments, and NRSC leadership attended the event.

“I think she understands this is a different race than her earlier race,” said Cornyn, who met with Lake when she visited D.C. this fall. “She seemed very sharp but I think what’s always really important for all of us is to maintain discipline.”

And there has been some praise of her early campaign efforts.

A leadership aide read out Lake’s recent comments to a conservative outlet on abortion policy as an example in a recent meeting with Senate GOP staffers of how to message on the issue, which has plagued the GOP since the fall of Roe v. Wade, according to a person in the meeting. Her highlighted comment: “Frankly if we never change a single abortion law, we could bring abortions down by supporting women.”

D.C. Republicans, however, may be easier to win over than those in Arizona.

Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate and conservative firebrand Kari Lake formally announced Tuesday she will seek the Republican nomination for Senate in what is expected to be one of the most closely watched races of 2024.

“I am not going to retreat. I’m going to stand on top of this hill with every single one of you. And I know you’re on my side as I formally announce my candidacy for the United States Senate,” Lake told a crowd in Scottsdale, Arizona as they cheered the longtime former television anchor turned MAGA champion who narrowly lost her race to be the state’s governor last year.

She will face off with Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, the only other major candidate in the race for the GOP nomination, and the winner will likely face Phoenix-area Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego, who is seen as the front-runner for his party’s nomination.

Incumbent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who left the Democrat Party to become an independent last year, has not yet said whether she will run for re-election.

Lake spent the months leading up to her announcement boosting her national profile by hitting the pavement as a top surrogate for former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and campaigning for Republican candidates across the country.

In the past three months alone, Lake has traveled to 14 states to headline events and address Republican organizations at the state and county levels, and has even thrown her support behind candidates in other Senate races

In a statement following Lake’s entry into the race, Lamb said he was the “only one proven conservative winner” running for Senate in Arizona.

“I am a lifelong conservative who has dedicated my life to protecting Arizonans and keeping them safe when Democrat policies make that job almost impossible. I have been in Arizona fighting for the people that call this great state home. I’m not a talker, I’m a doer, and I win elections. That is what separates me from my opponents,” he said.

Gallego’s campaign reacted to Lake’s announcement by predicting voters would reject her “again,” referencing her loss to current Democrat Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs last year.

“Arizonans — including a significant chunk of Republicans — already rejected Kari Lake once because of her dangerous plans to ban abortion and undermine our democracy. Her extremism should disqualify her from public office — and it will. Again,” Gallego campaign spokesperson Hanna Goss told Fox News Digital.

Kari Lake launched a U.S. Senate campaign for an Arizona seat in a splashy Scottsdale rally on Tuesday, having never conceded that she lost last year’s race for Arizona governor.

She is trying out new messages and courting the support of national Republicans she’s insulted in the past. But the former television news host isn’t backing down on the things that made her a star on the far right — her combativeness with perceived enemies, her fealty to Donald Trump and her willingness to defend his election lies.

National Republican leaders think a GOP candidate could take advantage of what could be a three-way race if Sen. Kyrsten Sinema seeks reelection. Sinema, a former Democrat who became an independent last year, is preparing for a campaign but has not said whether she will seek a second term. U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego is likely to have the Democratic nomination locked up.

At her rally Tuesday, Lake didn’t concede she lost the last election to now-Gov. Katie Hobbs, but didn’t say it was stolen and made only a brief mention of it during a nearly 50-minute-long speech. She said she’s “never going to walk away from the fight to restore honest elections.”

“We did everything right, and we saw the disaster of election day in Arizona,” Lake said. “Sometimes when things don’t go the way we expect, we find ourselves questioning and asking why … I think God has bigger plans for us.”

She heaped praise on former President Donald Trump, who recorded a video endorsement that was played at the rally, and repeatedly attacked the media, calling journalists covering her event “fake news fools.”

“When I’m back in the White House, I need strong fighters like Kari in the Senate,” Trump said.

    A change in tone

Lake also offered conciliatory words for voters who disagree with her, a sharp contrast with her last campaign, when she didn’t want support from establishment Republicans, even after she defeated them in the GOP primary.

“I may disagree with Arizonans who voted for Joe Biden,” Lake said. “But I don’t think you’re a threat to democracy. You are a citizen just like me.”

After once calling Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky an “old bat” and saying he needed to be replaced as Republican leader, Lake now says she would support him if she’s elected. Last year, she called abortion “the ultimate sin” and supported a near-total ban on abortion in Arizona. Now, she says she wouldn’t endorse a federal abortion ban.

Lake met recently with Sen. Steve Daines of Montana, who leads the GOP’s Senate campaign work as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and saw several other GOP senators during a trip to Washington. Daines has publicly urged Lake to focus on the future instead of relitigating past elections.

A former television news anchor for nearly three decades in the Phoenix market, Lake was already known locally but had no national profile when she walked away from her career in 2021, declared “journalism is dead,” and took a sledgehammer to televisions showing cable newscasts.

Right up to Election Day, she embraced Trump, appeared with right-wing figures like Steve Bannon and blasted establishment Republicans, including the late Sen. John McCain.

She lost the governor’s race by less than 1 point. About four in 10 Arizona voters in the 2022 election said they were “very concerned” that Lake’s views were too extreme, according to AP VoteCast, a survey of U.S. voters. She lost 11% of Republicans. About 63% of independents and 96% of Democrats backed the winner, Democrat Katie Hobbs.

But Lake became a national figure on the far right with her television appearances and her defense of Trump’s election falsehoods.

Lake’s legal battles over her fraudulent election claims

In the months since, Lake has traveled extensively to speak to Republican groups around the country, her remarks focused largely on her fraudulent election claims. Her frequent trips to Iowa, the state where she was born but also the host of the leadoff presidential caucuses, have raised eyebrows in political circles. Some have floated her as a running mate for Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

She sued Maricopa County, claiming election officials deliberately created printer malfunctions to cause her to lose. She lost, and her unsuccessful appeals have bounced through the court system, all the way up to the Arizona Supreme Court.

She also was sued for defamation by Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, a Republican official who says he has faced death threats because she lied about how he conducted the election.

Last month she was back in court for her third election-related case, where she watched as her lawyer argued that Arizona’s public records law entitles her to see copies of signed vote-by-mail envelopes. She claims reviewing the signatures would allow her to prove that ballots were counted that should not have been, drawing parallels to an unprecedented partisan recount of ballots conducted by Trump supporters on behalf of state Senate Republicans following the 2020 election.

Her fights over the 2020 and 2022 elections have only further endeared her to Arizona Republicans, who nominated a slate of Trump-backed candidates who spread election lies and went on to lose in the midterms. She enters the Senate race as an immediate front-runner in the GOP primary, where she’ll face Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.

The NRSC has not ruled out endorsing Lake in the primary, according to a person familiar with the organization’s strategy who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations. Support from the NRSC would potentially open up a lucrative funding stream and signal to donors that Lake has the support of key GOP senators.

Lake’s announcement to run for Senate comes a week after she filed the paperwork. Her biggest challenger in the Republican primary will likely be Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.

Lake launched her U.S. Senate campaign on Tuesday during a rally in Scottsdale, Arizona.

As noted by The Hill, Sinema has not yet revealed any campaign plans in her reelection bid and she will also face a battle with Democrats, who desperately want to steal the seat back from her due to her moderate stances on certain issues.

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) is running on the Democratic side, while Sinema has stayed mum on any campaign plans. NBC News reported last month that her political team had been sharing a prospectus aimed at showing what her pathway to reelection would look like among Democrats, Republicans and independents.

Should Sinema run again, it would set up a high-stakes three-way race for a seat that both Republicans and Democrats see as key to determining the partisan balance of the Senate next cycle.

Polling from Noble Predictive Insights, which looked at a three-way race between Gallego, Sinema and Lake, and separate polling from Emerson College Polling, which looked at a three-way race between Gallego, Sinema and Lamb, suggested Gallego would place first in both matchups. However, 15 percent of respondents in both polls said they were undecided.

Kari Lake lost her bid for Arizona governor during the 2022 midterms.

PHOENIX (AP) — Kari Lake asked for a show of hands.

Who’s been canceled? Who’s lost friends? Has strained relations with family? Been indicted? Sued for defamation?

“If your hand did not go up in any of that, then I do think you need to work a little harder. I really do,” Lake told an adoring crowd of Michigan Republicans gathering last month on Mackinac Island.

Lake will launch a U.S.

That worries some Republicans who fear she will cost them a race that could decide control of the Senate.

“Kari Lake can win, but she’s going to have to run a different campaign than she ran two years ago, and she’s going to have to become a serious candidate who talks about serious issues that everyday Republican and independent voters care about,” said Chris Baker, an Arizona-based Republican political consultant. “And she hasn’t done a lot of that this year.”

After once calling Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell an “old bat” and saying he needed to be replaced as Republican leader, Lake now says she would support him if she’s elected. Last year, she called abortion “the ultimate sin” and supported a near-total ban on abortion in Arizona. Now, she says she wouldn’t endorse a federal abortion ban.

National Republican leaders think a GOP candidate could take advantage of what could be a three-way race if Sen. Kyrsten Sinema seeks reelection. Sinema, a former Democrat who became an independent last year, is preparing for a campaign but has not said whether she will seek a second term. U.S. Rep.

She still insists that she and Trump were cheated out of victory.

“People are coming around to the fact that President Trump was right about everything,” Lake told The Associated Press in September while attending the recent GOP presidential debate in California. “And as America comes around to that, we’re going to come together as a country.”

She also was sued for defamation by Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, a Republican official who says he has faced death threats because she lied about how he conducted the election.

Asked by the AP at September’s Republican presidential debate whether she needs more support from moderates, Lake demurred, saying she already has broad support from Republicans, Democrats and independents.

“I believe that our policies actually attract Democrats,” Lake said.

Stung by unexpected Senate losses last year, Republicans in Washington have vowed to take an active role in primaries to help more electable candidates earn the GOP nomination. Lake so far has received a warm, if tentative, reception in the nation’s capital, where influential officials who control the party’s money and priorities are signaling that they’re open to embracing her if she’s willing to broaden her base of support.

“We have had productive conversations with Kari Lake and her team,” Daines said in a statement. “She is a talented campaigner with an impressive ability to fire up the grassroots. We have a clear path to victory with two Democrats on the ballot in Arizona.”

After harshly criticizing McConnell during her gubernatorial campaign, she now says she would support the Republican leader in Congress because he would be preferable to Democratic leader Chuck Schumer.

“If the choice is between McConnell and Schumer, who are you going to vote for? It’s not going to be Schumer,” Lake told the AP.

That’s a change of tone from a year ago, when she called McConnell an “old bat” at a campaign rally and said it was time to replace him as the GOP leader with Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. Even as recently as August, she appeared to poke fun at McConnell freezing up during a press conference.

“I don’t even think he can control what comes out of his mouth anymore,” Lake said on Bannon’s podcast. “I mean there’s something going on right now with him.”

Despite what some wish, Lake insists in her speeches that she isn’t changing what’s central to her identity.

“I will never stop fighting. I will never sit down. I will never shut up when it comes to elections,” Lake told the crowd in Michigan in late September, days before she confirmed her plans to run for Senate. “I will never take terrible advice from Republicans who say, ‘Don’t talk about the elections.’”

Arizona Republican Kari Lake, who was last year’s Republican gubernatorial nominee in the Grand Canyon State, will announce her candidacy for U.S. Senate during an October 10 rally in Phoenix.

The Wall Street Journal’s Elia Collins first reported on Lake’s plans on Thursday, having spoken with Lake about her forthcoming announcement.

“We need to get a senator in there who is going to fight back and put America first,” Lake told the outlet.

Lake, a former Fox 10 Phoenix anchor who left the news industry over liberal bias, joins Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb in the Republican primary field. Arizona’s 2022 GOP Senate nominee Blake Masters was reportedly weighing a run, but Collins noted former President Donald Trump spoke with Masters via phone call “and walked through Lake’s strengths in a GOP primary, according to people familiar with the call.”

Masters has since tabled his plans, according to Collins. Notably, Trump endorsed both candidates last year, and they regularly campaigned together. In fact, they visited the border together on a trip with Lamb.

Lake nearly beat Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) in the 2022 midterm election, taking 49.67 percent of the vote to Hobbs’s 50.33 percent. Masters lost his race to Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) by a slightly wider margin, as they registered at 51.4 percent and 46.5 percent, respectively. Notably, Libertarian candidate Marc Victor garnered 2.1 percent.

Lake has, to this point, unsuccessfully challenged the results of the election. Lately, she has been a Trump surrogate, spending a lot of time in Iowa, where she continues to draw impressive crowds.

She vies for the nomination to participate in what could very well be an unpredictable three-way race in Arizona, as Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), who defected from the Democrat Party in 2022, could launch a reelection bid, and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) has declared his candidacy on the Democrat side of things.

And while national Republicans are beginning to accept that Lake will likely win the GOP primary, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his team need to be convinced she would be competitive in a general election before he commits money in the battleground state, according to those close to McConnell whom the Journal has spoken with:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) hasn’t committed to spending national-campaign cash in the state, and people close to him say they would need to see Lake prove she is able to run a competitive race. Lake said she hopes to meet with McConnell soon and that she would vote for him for leader of the Republican Party if he was the top Republican choice. She is set to meet with Republicans across the ideological spectrum during a Washington, D.C., visit next week.

What is more, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, complemented Lake’s skills as a campaigner, and Collins noted the NRSC had not decided against backing a particular candidate in the race.
