A BRAND new Disney cruise is due to set sail from the UK from next year.

The voyages will set off from Southampton, as well as several ports elsewhere in Europe, and take in sights all across the continent on five to 12-night vacations.

The Disney Fantasy will spend its first summer season in Europe in 2025, visiting incredible European destinations from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean.

It will sail from May to late July on five- to 12-night sailings from Barcelona, Spain and Civitavecchia (Rome).

En route it will call in at picturesque ports throughout the Med, while one special 12-night will sail to the Greek Isles and feature three stops in Greece, two in Italy and the season’s only stop in Valetta, Malta.

Then, from late July to September, the Fantasy will sail from Southampton, to numerous destinations including Spain, Norway and the British Isles.

Three, four and five-night trips are available from the UK.

On board the ships, families will be treated to West End–style musicals and “larger-than-life deck parties”.

Meanwhile, there are several pool options on the ships, some of which even have slides and water attractions, while families can take part in gameshows and sit down for screenings of classic Disney movies.

Imaginative, immersive dining experience, kids’ clubs and meetings with characters are all also included.

Meanwhile, there are adults-only spas and restaurants to allow parents to have a moment to themselves.

A three-night cruise from Southampton starts from £1,834 for two people.

The Sun goes inside the 100 Euro buffet at reimagined Disneyland Hotel Paris

The European trips aren’t the only Disney cruises launching next year either, with routes also launching in northern America.

The Disney Wonder will once again embark on adventures to Alaska from Vancouver, Canada, with five, seven, eight and nine-night sailings from May to September.

Families are promised “the breathtaking natural beauty of the last frontier” combined with the magic of Disney, on cruises to Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan.

There will also be port adventures that offer excursions to Alaska’s glaciers and gold mining relics.

    Theme Park Tips

    1. Go to the back of the theme park first. Rides at the front will have the longest queues as soon as it opens.
    2. Go on water rides in the middle of the day in the summer – this will cool you off when the sun is at its hottest.
    3. Download the park’s app to track which rides have the shortest queues.
    4. Visit on your birthday, as some parks give out “birthday badges” that can get you freebies.
    5. If it rains, contact the park. Depending on how much it rained, you may get a free ticket to return.

For those more interested in tropical getaways four Disney Cruise Line ships will be based in Florida, with three ships out of Port Canaveral and one out of Fort Lauderdale.

They will whisk families away on tropical escapes to The Bahamas and elsewhere in the Caribbean, including Disney’s magical island destinations.

The Disney Treasure, the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, will follow its inaugural season with seven-night itineraries from Port Canaveral to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

Eastern Caribbean sailings will take families to Disney’s private island paradise, Disney Castaway Cay, along with Tortola and St. Thomas.

Meanwhile, Western Caribbean sailings will carry families to destinations such as Falmouth in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico.

The week-long voyages will offer at least two days at sea, giving families time to enjoy the unique spaces, immersive dining and entertainment onboard.

Elsewhere, the Disney Magic will base itself in Port Canaveral for the first time since summer 2016, taking guests on four and five-night sailings to The Bahamas and both of Disney’s island destinations.

One special 10-night southern Caribbean sailing in July will take families to both of Disney Cruise Line’s island destinations along with Antigua, St. Kitts, San Juan and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.

Both the Disney Magic and the Disney Dream will take guests to Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, the one-of-a-kind retreat on the island of Eleuthera, in summer 2025.

Disney has promised that the tropical getaway will provide “a unique window into the rich culture of The Bahamas merged with Disney’s signature entertainment and service”.

Select itineraries will include stops at both Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, with six Disney Magic or Disney Dream cruises sailing exclusively to Disney’s island destinations.

The Disney Wish will also sail from Port Canaveral, offering three and four-night sailings to Nassau and the beaches of Disney Castaway Cay.

In South Florida, the Disney Dream will sail from Fort Lauderdale on three to five-night sailings to one or both of Disney’s island destinations, along with Nassau or Cozumel.

Meanwhile, this is what Disney’s brand new private island will look like once it opens later this year.

And this is what the Disney Treasure looks like on board.

When your parent works for an airline, jetsetting around the world comes easy, as one self-confessed ‘airline nepo baby’ has revealed.

Joshua Crawford, 23, from New Jersey, has built a burgeoning social media following thanks to his globetrotting content – which he admits is down to the fact his father works as a Aircraft tooling, calibration, & support equipment Supervisor for United, meaning that his son can hop on flights for free.

In one TikTok post, Joshua – whose father has worked for the airline for 24 years – shows how he has clocked up 260,212 miles in the last five years, after taking 123 flights to more than 30 cities around the world.

In another upload, he outlines the other perks of being an ‘airline nepo baby’ – along with being able to fly for virtually nothing.

The first plus point he gives is that international travel is ‘easy.’  This is because he has Global Entry, which includes TSA pre check.

While he didn’t get Global Entry for free, he told Business Insider he got a discounted rate thanks to his dad’s job.

Next up, Joshua says he is able to score free upgrades – including to first class – on any flights when seats are available.

In a photo, he demonstrates how he landed a $7,000 fully lay flat seat in United’s Polaris business class cabin for no extra charge.

And in dozens of other clips he can be seen enjoying the food in premium cabins, with glassware and silver cutlery in view.

The third perk of being an airline nepo baby, Joshua says, is that he gets lounge access at airports, so he never has to spend money on food in the terminals.

In 2023, the influencer visited four continents, with trips across the US, Europe, Australia and Japan.

At United Airlines, children of employees have their flight privileges revoked when they turn 26.

However, because Joshua is listed as his father’s ‘primary companion,’ he has managed to maintain the VIP treatment.

While Joshua can fly throughout America for free by being on standby, he has to pay taxes on international flights but he says this is a fraction of what a full price ticket would be.

For instance, he only had to pay $70 for a last-minute flight from Japan to the U.S.

He told his TikTok followers that he feels ‘blessed.’

Off the back of his posts, other airline nepo babies have chimed in.

One of Joshua’s fans wrote: ‘My mom works at Delta and my dad at Southwest. Had so many great experiences because of that.’

Another revealed: ‘Being able to hop on a flight whenever you need to is truly a blessing. I used Delta like Uber in college.’

Like Joshua, one TikToker said that her mother who works for JetBlue made her a ‘flying partner’ so she wouldn’t lose the benefits when she turned 24.

‘The most amazing privilege for real,’ she added.

    Joshua currently lives in California.

After finishing a degree in marketing, he is looking for employment while working part-time at Trader Joes.

In his TikTok outlining the pluses of being an airline nepo baby, United Airlines issued a response, exclaiming: ‘We love this for you!’

Joshua hinted that he might be interested in following in his father’s footsteps by forging a career in the aviation industry, with his reply reading: ‘I LOVE YOU GUYS to the bottom of my HEART. I’m also looking for a job.’

Bluewater in Kent is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this week, having first opened March 16, 1999.

Inside are more than 300 shops, cafes and restaurants with the newest including Oliver Bonas, Flying Tiger, Uniqlo, Whistles and Black Sheep Coffee.

With as many as 28million annual visitors, it isn’t just the shops – as it has a number of record-breaking attractions.

One of it’s main attractions is Skywire, the longest zipline in England measuring more than 700 metres, as well as the Giant Swing, the biggest in Europe.

Skydive was the first ever outdoor skydiving attraction in the UK too.

Indoor climbing walls and trampolines are found at Gravity Active, as well as a free soft play area.

There is even a pirate-themed mini golf course and a dinosaur themed, three-storey soft play area Dinotropolis.

Seasonal events include a beach in summer and an ice rink in winter, along with Winterland fairground.

There are some exciting new attractions opening this year too.

Ballerz, launched by football stars Rio Ferdinand and Bobby Zamora, will be an air dome with ‘competitive football socialising’.

Reimagining Waterloo Station: London’s Next Big Transformation

The website states: “Ballerz is a brand-new experience-led football dome kicking off in Spring 2024.

“Leagues. Parties. Coaching for Kids. Welcome to the new home of football.”

The £3million attraction hopes to open in May.

People have raved about the shopping centre, with one saying it takes “nearly a day just to look around”.

Someone else said on Google: “It’s probably my favourite large shopping centre in the UK.”

A second agreed: “One of the best shopping centres in UK.”

Here are some other shopping centres to try in the UK.

    London Designer Outlet, London

Sun Online Travel recently reviewed another shopping centre that’s a ‘hidden gem’ for bargain hunters.

The London Designer Outlet (LDO) is often overlooked in favour of Bicester Village.

However, we found that not only did it have more high street brands, but saved more than £100 while shopping.

    Icon Outlet, London

Also overlooked is the Icon Outlet at the O2, being near the Westfield Stratford centre.

Along with designer outlet shops, it is also home to London’s biggest cinema, as well as the London in the Sky outdoor dining experience.

It also opened a new Wetherspoons pub last year, with a 3,800sqft riverside beer garden.

Five new water attractions opening in the UK next year

    1. Therme Manchester will have 25 swimming pools, 25 water slides and an indoor beach.
    2. Modern Surf Manchester will be a surfing lagoon offering lessons to both beginners and experts.
    3. Chessington World of Adventures waterpark is set to have wave, infinity and spa pools as well as waterslides and cabanas.
    4. The Cove Resort, Southport is likely to have a water lagoon and a thermal spa with steam rooms and saunas.
    5. The Seahive, Deal plans to be the “surfing wellness resort” in the UK.

Meenakshi Sai, 51, looks like any other Indian woman, dressed in a saree and sporting a bindi on her forehead.

But unlike many women in her country, she’s been driving since she was 18 years old. As of 2020, less than 7% of India’s 236 million drivers were women, according to the data website Statista.

“I have been driving since I was legally allowed to and have always enjoyed the freedom it afforded me and the feeling of being independent,” said Sai. “After my only daughter went away to boarding school, I had a lot of time on my hands. I started traveling a lot, both solo and with friends.”

Sai was one of a team of eight Indians who drove 20,000 km (12,430 miles) across five countries from Coimbatore, India to St. Petersburg, Russia to spread awareness about cervical cancer.

More Indians are taking road trips these days — both within the country and beyond, solo and in groups — as access to better vehicles and better roads grows in the country.

There’s also the rise of slow travel. However, Sai took her first road trip back in 2016, before it became a trend.

“I drove to Thailand with a group of 20 people,” she said, “from Manipur in India’s northeast to Bangkok, which took us 13 days.”

Meenakshi Sai, on a road trip from India to Russia to spread awareness about cervical cancer.

    Source: Meenakshi Sai

Her next big road trip was from India to London, which she called “complicated.”

“It took me six months to draw up the itinerary,” she said. “It was difficult to find anyone in my own circle of friends and family who had the time or were willing to invest the money in this trip.”

In the end, she found two women through social media — one from Mumbai, the other from Pollachi — who were interested in joining her.

Tata Motors sponsored the trip, which stretched for more than 14,900 miles and coincided with the 70th anniversary of India’s independence. The journey took 70 days, taking the three women across 24 countries, including Russia, Poland and Uzbekistan.

“We drove around 600 kilometers a day,” Sai said. “Many countries had given us date-specific visas so we could not afford to be delayed, even by a few hours.”

Sai, who is a vegetarian, said she subsisted on “a lot of potatoes and bread” in countries where meat was a major dietary staple.

    Source: Meenakshi Sai

Road conditions combined with changing weather and altitude levels made the trip difficult, she said — as did the fact that she’s vegetarian, which made suitable food options challenging to find in many countries.

“I ate a lot of potatoes and bread in countries like Kyrgyzstan where there was a lot of meat,” she said.

Sai now runs an overland driving company that organizes road trips across countries like Namibia, Georgia, Armenia, Nepal and Mongolia.

“Driving through a country is the way to see it, connecting with locals, stopping where you feel like, border crossings, and thriving on uncertainty. I also love the freedom that the open road gives me,” she said.

    100 road trips, 50 countries

In 2001, Mumbai-based Rishad Saam Mehta, 51, drove from Delhi to the Nubra Valley, an area of Ladakh in northeast India.

“It was my first drive in the high Himalayas, and I didn’t know how dangerous and narrow and high the roads were, and the havoc that altitude can play on one physically. It was a lesson learnt the hard way,” said the journalist and author.

Rishad Saam Mehta near the Great Wall of China.

    Source: Rishad Saam Mehta,

Since then, Mehta has taken more than 100 road trips across some 50 countries. One really exciting one was the drive from Munich to Mumbai, which lasted two months and covered eight countries, he said.

He also drives different cars, depending on the trip, he said.

“I did a drive in a Ferrari through the Bavarian and Austrian Alps, then a snow drive in Spiti in Northern India in a Toyota Fortuner, then a fall drive in New England in a Ford Bronco,” he said. “These were all favorites.”

His advice? “There are many great drives around the world, some I come across by chance, some I research beforehand … but the company has to be good, otherwise, it is a disaster,” he said.

    The ‘Great India World Trip’

Tushar Agarwal, a software engineer, drove from London to Delhi in 2010.

He said the journey of 51 days was life-changing and prompted him to resign from his job in London, move back to Delhi, and co-found a company called Adventures Overland with his friend Sanjay Madan in 2012.

“I felt that this was my purpose in life…  there was no looking back,” said Agarwal.

Today, Adventure Overland is one of India’s biggest road trip companies. It organizes curated driving trips across the globe.

Agarwal has traveled to 92 countries and gone on road trips in six continents. His most adventurous trip, called the “Great India World Trip,” is now a 10-episode series on Discovery Channel. Along with his co-founder Madan, the journey took them across six continents and 50 countries, securing them a Guinness World Record for the longest journey by car in a single country for their 10,600-mile trek across Australia.

A 65-day trip from India to London with Adventures Overland costs around $30,000 and includes a hot air balloon ride and cruise, according to its website.

Traversing beautiful terrains and driving through unknown territory, border crossings and contending with unfamiliar food and inclement weather may not be for everybody.

But as Mehta said, “The sense of freedom and not being shackled to timetables and schedules … and also the spontaneity it affords, makes driving the ultimate adventure.”

A NEW European train route connecting top holiday destinations on the Mediterranean could launch this year.

Train company Trenitalia announced last month that it wanted to introduce two tourist railway routes between Italy and France as soon as this summer.

While the exact route of the proposed train line has not been revealed yet, the journey could start from Milan and go all the way up to Marseille, it is being speculated.

The train could also make stops at tourist-friendly cities such as Monaco, Nice and Côte d’Azur in between.

Luigi Cantamessa, general director of FS Treni Turistici Italiani, said: “[The new routes] will not be on a high-speed line but rather an intercity line.

“This should probably be put into service for the summer of 2024 with one Milan-Marseille round trip per day.”

The proposed train line service will be run in collaboration with France’s state-owned railway SNCF.

“We are convinced that taking into account the traffic situation, particularly in the Liguria region, and the growing sensitivity towards the environment, the market conditions are now ripe to operate a route daily seasonal focused on tourism needs,” Cantamessa added.

While the official launch date has not yet been revealed, the new train line could start taking tourist bookings in summer this year.

And the price of the ticket is expected to be cheaper than the existing Paris-Milan train route since it is a much longer journey.

It comes after a short train journey along the stretch of the Italian coast was labelled one of the “most scenic” in Europe.

Located along the Italian coastline in northern Italy, the Cinque Terre is a string of five villages, including Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.

The ‘most scenic train journey in the world’ is in Britain and tickets cost £23

Most holidaymakers to the Cinque Terre are daytrippers from nearby Genoa and La Spezia, which means attempting to pack all five villages into just one day.

The route can start in either direction, but most holidaymakers begin their journey in Riomaggiore, with the Italian train stopping at each of the stations, before arriving in Monterosso.

It takes roughly five minutes to travel between each of the stations in the Cinque Terre.

Holidaymakers who’ve managed to nab a window seat can expect seaside views overlooking crystal-clear waters and ragged cliffs.

Other views include glimpses of the Cinque Terre’s colourful buildings and green fields where farmers grow olives, grapes, and basil.

One-way tickets cost €5 (£4.30) per person, but most holidaymakers opt to purchase the Cinque Terre Pass for €18.20.

The Cinque Terre Pass gives visitors unlimited access to train travel between the five towns as well as a hiking pass.

Train tickets can be purchased on the Trenitalia website.

Meanwhile, Via dell’Amore (a walking route between the Italian towns) is set to reopen later this year.

The one-kilometre walking trail previously connected the towns of Riomaggiore and Manarola.

After the route first opened to tourists in 1931, it became popular with holidaymakers thanks to its picturesque views and flat path.

But after a landslide in September 2012, Via dell’Amore, which is also known as Lovers’ Lane, closed to the public.

Three scenic train journeys you can take in the UK

Cornish Coast – One trip that rail enthusiasts seem to love is along a stretch of the Cornish coast and takes just 10 minutes to complete.

The route from St Erth to St Ives only stops at Carbis Bay en route to its final destination, but the views out the window for the whole journey are pretty spectacular.

Another highlight of the journey is that St Ives station is situated right next to Porthminster beach, meaning the sand and sea can be accessed almost immediately.

Meanwhile, the station is less than a ten minute walk into town, where the harbour, shops, galleries and pubs can be explored.

Durham to Edinburgh – Another train route that people in the UK love is the East Coast train line between Durham and Edinburgh, with coastal views and city landscapes among the sights that can be seen out the window.

Newcastle, Berwick, Lindisfarne and Durham Cathedral are all among the highlights on that route.

Scotland’s West Highland Line – While Scotland is home to plenty of famous landmarks and top attractions, it also has one of the most breathtaking train routes in the world.

Scotland’s West Highland Line has previously been dubbed the best rail journey in the world by Wanderlust – and it’s easy to see why.

The journey from Glasgow to Fort William is one of my favourite train routes – and I’ve interrailed through mainland Europe.

With mountain landscapes, serene lochs, wistful moors, and wildlife all visible through the train window, it’s certainly a route all holidaymakers should consider doing at least once.

Eight in ten Brits are actively choosing to book holidays with friends, while 62 per cent prefer them to trips away with their family, the findings suggest.

A further 87 per cent said weekends and mini breaks away with pals can be better than trips with their lover or family.

The research was conducted by Leonardo Hotels, which drew up a ranking of the 15 best things about a ‘mate-cation’.

According to the 2,000 Brits surveyed, laughing tops the list (57 per cent), followed by having a good old gossip (second, 42 per cent), and having time to really talk and bond (third, 40 per cent).

According to the survey, 78 per cent of Brits said some of their best holidays have been with their pals, with the average person taking two friend trips a year.

Almost two-thirds (61 per cent) said they come back from a family getaway feeling more stressed than before they went away. In contrast, 73 per cent come back from a friend break feeling more relaxed.

President Joe Biden, age 81, nearly tripped twice when ascending the stairs to Air Force One recently, potentially putting himself at risk for injury and hospitalization.

The president was seen ascending slightly shorter stairs than usual when he nearly tripped twice, with no Secret Service agent accompanying him, though agents have recently been seen watching him closely from the bottom of the stairs.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adults 65 years or older have an increased risk of injury should they suffer a fall.

Falls are common and costly, especially among Americans age 65 and older. But falls are preventable and do not have to be an inevitable part of aging.

Every second of every day, an older adult (age 65+) suffers a fall in the U.S.—making falls the leading cause of injury and injury death in this age group. One out of four older adults will fall each year in the United States, making falls a public health concern, particularly among the aging population.

Though a physical exam declared Biden “fit for duty” last year, it did say that the president suffers from a stiff gait and neuropathy in the feet, which calls into question why the Secret Service will not at least stand close to the president as he ascends a lengthy staircase. As Breitbart News reported, the president previously tripped and caught himself on his way up the stairs to Air Force One last year while visiting Poland. He did the same thing in 2021 when he stumbled multiple times boarding his transport.

“In March 2021, Biden fell three times as he boarded the stairs of Air Force One, for which the wind was also blamed,” Breitbart News reported.

“Some observers fear that Biden’s physical state may be representative of his mental state,” it added.

In March 2023, the president once again stumbled on his way up to Air Force One with no Secret Service agents by his side in case he fell.

A recent ABC News/Ipsos poll showed that Americans overwhelmingly feel that Biden is now too old to serve another term.

In threatening legal action against a Florida college student whose social media accounts track her private-plane flights, Taylor Swift has refocused attention on reports that she’s one of the celebrity world’s biggest polluters of carbon dioxide — just as she’s expected to fly 12 hours in a private plane from Tokyo this weekend to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce play in the Super Bowl Sunday.

Jack Sweeney, a University of Central Florida junior, went public Tuesday with cease-and-desist letters sent from Swift’s attorney. In one letter, the attorney wrote that the pop megastar will “have no choice but to pursue any and all legal remedies” if he did not stop his social media posts that the attorney said constituted “stalking and harassing behavior,” the Washington Post reported.

Sweeney has run accounts that post information about the takeoffs and landings of jet planes and helicopters owned by celebrities, billionaires, politicians, Russian oligarchs and other public figures, the Washington Post reported. His posts also have shared estimates of the carbon dioxide that these aircraft are emitting into the environment. The accounts use publicly available data from the Federal Aviation Administration, while volunteer hobbyists track the aircraft via the signals they broadcast, the Post also said.

As Sweeney told The Post, he sees the letters as an attempt to stop him from sharing public information. He noted that the first letter was sent in December, at a time when Swift faced growing criticism over her flights’ environmental impact, while she was on the road for her Eras Tour — and while she was jetting back and forth across the United States to see Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, play in NFL games.

“This information is already out there,” Sweeny told the Post. “Her team thinks they can control the world.”

Sweeney also said: “I think it’s important to note that nowhere do I intend for harm. I actually think Swift has some good songs.” However, he emphasized, “I believe in transparency and public information.”

Sweeney’s accounts previously sparked debate about free speech and the public’s right to certain information when X, formerly Twitter, banned the 21-year-old for sharing information about the private-plane flights of Elon Musk, the platform’s owner, the Post said. Musk accused Sweeney of publishing his “assassination coordinates.”

The letter from Swift’s attorney, Katie Wright Morrone, alleged that Sweeney’s accounts had caused Swift and her family “direct and irreparable harm, as well as emotional and physical distress,” as well as heightened her “constant state of fear for her personal safety.”

“While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our client,” Morrone wrote. She added that there is “no legitimate interest in or public need for this information, other than to stalk, harass, and exert dominion and control.”

Morrone wrote that Swift has regularly dealt with stalkers showing up outside her multiple homes, including a man who faces stalking and harassment charges after being arrested last month outside her townhouse in Manhattan, the Post reported.

Swift’s spokesperson, Tree Paine, however, would not say whether her team had any evidence that stalkers used Sweeney’s accounts to track the singer’s travels.

“We cannot comment on any ongoing police investigation but can confirm the timing of stalkers suggests a connection,” Paine told The Post. “His posts tell you exactly when and where she would be.”

For his part, Sweeney told the Post that his accounts offered “an incomplete sketch” of cities Swift might be visiting, similar to publicly available schedules for her concerts or NFL games she might attend. The accounts also don’t say whether Swift is actually traveling on an aircraft being tracked, or where she or other passengers go once the planes land.

Swift has been the subject of reports about her private-jet travels in the past. A 2022 report by Yard, a U.K.-based digital media marketing company, estimated that she was one of “the top 10 celebrity CO2 offenders.”

Even in 2022, when Swift was not on tour, she racked up a total of 170 flights between January and July of that year, Yard found. She spent an estimated 22,923 minutes in the air — or 15.9 days — with her total emissions amounting to 1,185 times more than the average person’s total annual emissions.

Last week, the Associated Press reported that concerns about Swift’s private-plane travel had begun to bubble up on social media, largely due to her high-profile romance with Kelce. NFL fans, Swifties and pretty much everyone else has been inundated with news about Swifting showing up at Chiefs games, though people also began to notice that Swift could only make it to the games by spending a lot of time on private jets.

The talk about Swift’s carbon footprint grew louder louder after the Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens on Jan. 29, sending them to the Super Bowl, which is in Las Vegas on Feb. 11.

For Swift to attend the Super Bowl, she will need to fly in from Tokyo, where she will be finishing off four nights of performances for her Eras tour. Of course, Swift was at the Grammys in Los Angeles Sunday night. AP estimated that she’d need to make a make a 19,400-mile round trip from the United States to Japan and back in less than a week.

The AP reported that carbon emissions for any trip depend on many factors, such as flight paths and number of passengers. Traveling 19,400 miles on a Dassault Falcon 900LX, one of Swift’s jets, could release more than 200,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, Gregory Keoleian, co-director of the Center for Sustainable Systems at the University of Michigan, told AP.

That would be about 14 times as much as the average American household emits in a year, AP reported, citing data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The AP and other reports say that all air travel creates emissions, but private jets are known to produce much more per person, with a 2023 study showing that private jets emit at least 10 times more emissions per passenger compared to commercial planes, the AP said.

It may not be realistic for Swift to fly commercial, given security concerns. Her fame also could unleash chaos at public airports or for airline crews, AP said.

Paine, her publicist, said that Swift tried to offset the emissions her flights would produce during her tour by buying “more than double the carbon credits needed,” but she did not provide details. But the use of carbon offsets has become controversial because large companies or very wealthy people can use them to justify using private planes or making other unsustainable choices.

Programs that sell carbon offsets by saying they support clean technology or offer other sustainability initiatives are loosely regulated, the AP reported. Moreover, news reports have found that some programs overestimate how much carbon is being captured or engage in questionable practices. In general, environmentalists say that offsets shouldn’t give people a license to pollute and recommend that everyone should reduce unnecessary travel.

Taylor Swift is redefining what it is to be a success in the music industry – and simultaneously changing the travel industry.

Last year, the U.S leg of her Eras tour bolstered the economy Stateside by at least $10billion (£8.6billion), according to the U.S Travel Association. The ‘Taylor Swift Effect’ was name-checked in the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s annual report as a growth factor for local economies in cities she visited.

Swift is now at the vanguard of ‘tour tourism’ – a burgeoning trend where holidaymakers choose their destination based on attending a gig there.

And it’s big business. During the US leg of Swift’s tour, hotels in cities she played in reported record-breaking occupancy rates. But those hotels weren’t just full, they were coining it.

Travel analysis firm Lighthouse aggregated data across 13 tour stops in North America, and found hotel room prices experienced an average bump of 7.7 per cent compared to the month prior to tour dates. This rise happened across the entire month, with Swift only playing for two to three nights, suggesting concert-going correlated to people taking mini-breaks.

Last year, the U.S leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour broke records and bolstered the economy Stateside by at least $10billion (£8.6billion), according to the U.S Travel Association

Look what you made me do with my travel plans: In 2024, Swift is taking her Eras Tour to both Europe and Australasia. According to Opodo, searches of travel to cities during the dates of the Swift concerts are well up compared to searches to the same cities the year prior. WORLD LEADERS PETITION FOR AN ERAS TOUR PIT-STOP

With a guaranteed boost to the local economy and tourist trade, it’s little wonder world leaders have openly petitioned to have Taylor Swift visit their countries.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted Swift last year, imploring her to visit; Chilean President Gabriel Boric all but begged for a gig stop; while the the mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, penned her a pleading letter and posted it on Instagram.

Most moving is Pita Limjaroenrat, leader of Thailand’s Move Forward Party, who tweeted Swift: ‘Thailand is back on track to be fully democratic after you had to cancel last time due to the coup. The Thai people have spoken via the election, and we all look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful nation of ours.’

It’s a conclusion corroborated by travel and hospitality data analysts RateGain, which said that within the U.S tour, destinations experienced a ‘long-tail effect’ around concert dates: people used the gig as a lynchpin around which to plan a ‘Swiftcation’, staying a week or two after the date Swift played.

These pilgrimages to see Swift are representative of a growing trend. In a November 2023 survey Expedia conducted about tour tourism, 70 per cent of respondents said they were more likely than ever to travel outside their home town to attend a concert.

Expedia says tour tourism is on the rise due to myriad factors, from post-pandemic enthusiasm for travel, consumer hunger to attend large-scale gigs again and, in the case of Swift, an unusually devoted fan base willing to go to great lengths to see her, considering how elusive Eras tickets are (one analysis of TicketMaster data concluded those trying to score a ticket had a 1 in 25 chance).

In 2024, Swift is taking her Eras Tour to both Europe and Australasia.

Evidence is already mounting that the record-breaking tour is inspiring holiday plans in Europe.

According to Opodo, searches of travel to cities during the dates of the Swift concerts are well up compared to searches to the same cities the year prior. ‘Searches [for travel to] Stockholm have increased almost five-fold (473 per cent) year on year for [the dates Swift is playing],’ Opodo reports.

Searches for travel to Warsaw are 339 per cent higher over her August tour dates compared to the same period in 2023, while searches for travel to Edinburgh and Liverpool over 7 to 15 June have grown 176 per cent and 133 per cent respectively.

Despite 53 dates in the U.S in 2023, the Eras tour continues to lure Americans abroad. According to Opodo 'U.S travellers lead the board globally for the most searches over concert dates to Paris, Madrid, Dublin, Amsterdam, Zurich, Hamburg and London'

Opodo also reports significant spikes in searches to Zurich, Lyon, Milan, Amsterdam, and Vienna.

Notably, despite 53 dates in the U.S in 2023, the Eras tour continues to lure Americans abroad. According to Opodo ‘U.S travellers lead the board globally for the most searches over concert dates to Paris, Madrid, Dublin, Amsterdam, Zurich, Hamburg and London’.

Most impressively, Opodo suggests Australians are willing to make a long-haul Taylor Swift pilgrimage: their travel searches suggest they are looking to head to London over any other Swift-tour destination.

For those touring Swifties worried they'll be bereft when the Eras Tour finally ends, there's a salve - in October 2024, a four-night, Swift-Themed Cruise is setting sail from Port of Miami, the day after Swift performs her last show in the city.

It could be Aussies are looking to make a trip of a lifetime, using Swift as an excuse. Or it could be a more cost-effective trip to make than seeing her closer to home.

Australian hotel prices are already surging for the period Swift is playing down under, with hotel prices in Melbourne and Sydney climbing to over AUS $1,000 (£785) a night, while one hostel in Sydney Central is charging AUS $565 (£482) for a private room on the night of her gig.

Aware of how far (literally) people are willing to go to see Swift, savvy tour companies are helping music lovers build out their holidays. London-based Contiki, a company that specialises in social travel for 18 to 35-year-olds, is catering directly to the tour tourism market during the European leg of Swift’s Eras Tour.

The ‘Taylor Your Itinerary 2024’ is an offer selling five trips pinned to the Eras concert dates across four European cities. The trips have Swift-inspired itineraries and, cannily, the company has offered a 13 per cent discount (13 being Taylor Swift’s favourite number) to Eras Tour ticket holders booking any trip longer than two weeks.
