    A SCOTS teen has slammed Ryanair after only receiving a voucher worth £7 following a 13-hour flight delay.

    Stephen May, 19, was on holiday in France with his brother, friend and partner when the group attempted to catch their flight home.

    They boarded the aircraft in Nantes and waited over an hour before being told there was a technical issue with the plane and they had to disembark.

    All the passengers then faced a 13-hour delay before they were finally provided with an alternative flight to Edinburgh.

    The travellers were not even allowed to wait in the airport, as staff needed to use the gate for other flights.

    After two hours the passengers were asked to go back through passport control and leave the building.

    Stephen’s group of holidaymakers were then left waiting for a new flight in 26C heat outside the airport.

    Over the course of the whole day Stephen claims they were only given one food and drink voucher worth €8 – around £7 – by Ryanair, which he said did not even cover the cost of a sandwich and drink.

    Stephen hit out at the airline, calling their communication “very, very poor”.

    He told the Scottish Sun: “We weren’t allowed to leave the gate and we had no updates or anything like that. We hadn’t eaten yet and the only food we could get was from the vending machines.

    “After two hours of sitting in the gate they told us to leave the airport because they needed the gate for other flights. They put us back through passport control and crossed off our stamps.

    “It was about 2pm that we were thrown outside. They escorted us out and we were sitting in the sun where the shuttle buses come in.

    “We would get texts from Ryanair with updates but it was very very poor – we knew every time we got an update from them it wasn’t going to happen.

    “They would tell us our plane was leaving in half an hour. We could see the plane in the terminal – it was over next to the maintenance hangar. We could see the plane was not even anywhere near a gate.

    “After six or seven hours Ryanair said we had an €8 food voucher to spend on refreshments. A sandwich was about €7.10 – and even a soft drink was two or three euros!”

    Stephen added that if the airline had given them more information on how long the delay would be, they would have gone back to Nantes for the day.

    He said: “I have a feeling they knew it was going to take hours and hours at 9 o’clock in the morning – they just didn’t want to tell us that. If they had told us then our plane wasn’t leaving til nearly 11pm, it would have been a lot better. We could have gone back into the city and enjoyed our day.”

    A spokesperson for Ryanair commented on the incident saying: “This flight from Nantes to Edinburgh (May 29) was delayed due to a minor technical issue. Affected passengers were notified and advised of their options and subsequently updated via SMS/email/App. This passenger chose to wait for the flight and was provided with multiple refreshment vouchers before departing for Edinburgh later that same day.

    “Ryanair apologises for any inconvenience caused to affected passengers as a result of this unavoidable delay.”
