    A GROUP of sleep experts have revealed that there is a miracle fruit that could help you drift off fast and, luckily, it’s a favourite.

    The fruit, which can be easily found in most supermarkets, can help maintain a better sleep schedule, which can have significant impacts on your physical and mental health.

    Experts at BedKingdom.co.uk have explained that snacking on a kiwi or two before bed can really help you get that extra beauty sleep.

    They told The Mirror: “Kiwi fruit has been a feature in many people’s bedtime routines for many years, and the science backs up the kiwi’s value as a sleep aid.

    “Studies have shown that kiwi fruit can help improve sleep quality, sleep timings, and sleep efficiency after a month of regular kiwifruit consumption before sleep.”

    Indeed, the claim has been backed up by studies, notably one published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2011.

    The experts explained: “Kiwi fruit contains high amounts of serotonin and antioxidants, as well as vitamins like folate, and B vitamin, which can help to treat sleep disorders as well as help reset your sleep schedule.”

    Other recommendations include not consuming caffeine in the evening, as the stimulant can take “up to 10 hours” to fully leave your system, and working out in the morning rather than at night.

    They continued: “A 2015 study by Yamanaka et al. found that vigorous exercise before bed disrupts the body’s natural rhythm and makes it harder to get to sleep.

    “This then makes it harder to keep to a sleep schedule, as well as reduces the quality of sleep achieved after intense exercise performed before bedtime.

    “This study found that rapid eye movement (REM) sleep was decreased by 10.5% in the people that performed intensive exercise before bed.

    “REM sleep is important because it is the time when your brain consolidates your memories, committing things learned during the day to long-term memory, as well as being the time when you dream most vividly.”

    That study also found that morning exercise actually improved sleep quality.

    It comes after a sleep doctor shared their six top tips for the best snooze ever with The Sun Online.

    Dr Guy Meadows suggested maintaining a routine and sorting out your sleep environment among his other pearls of wisdom.
