96 year old British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II is under medical supervision, an official statement from Buckingham Palace said today. “Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral,” reads the official statement from the Royal Palace.

While this has raised concerns about the health of the Queen among the public, family members and friends have gathered in the palace to see the Queen.

While everything is being on radar–from her health to her well being to her monarchy to her royal life– one thing has caught everybody’s attention; it is the Operation London Bridge.

Operation London Bridge is reportedly the nickname of the ceremony or the protocol following the Queen’s death. For atleast 12 days after the Queen’s death, the UK will stand still.

Operation London Bridge includes a call cascade to inform the leaders and stalwarts of Britain about the Queen’s death after it has been confirmed from Buckingham Palace. After the Prime Minister, cabinet secretary and the Privy Council Office are informed an official public notification would be released.

As per a report, according to the Operation London Bridge the Queen’s death will be announced at 8 am, in the event that she dies overnight.

Reports say the operation rules that most of the staff members will be sent home following the death of the Queen. The staff hotline of the royal court will distribute the instructions to the employees of the palace.

The protocol dictates flying the Union flag at half mast until 8am after the funeral day of the Queen. Churches may also toll their bells to mark the day of the Queen’s death or the day after, reports.

However, the Royal Standard will not be flown at half-mast.

The funeral day will be declared a bank holiday.

If the Queen’s death happens during the working hours, it is expected that the London Stock Exchange and some other businesses will shut down as a mark of respect.

Quoting a former ambassador, reports have said that “Social functions will be canceled and the Union Flag will be flown at half-mast until after the funeral, just like in the UK. Officials will enter a period of mourning and dress appropriately. Condolence books will be prepared for visitors to leave messages.”

The successor will be announced at the Accession Council which will be held at St James’ Palace, after the staff members are sent home. Privy councillors, lords, the lord mayor of the city of London, and high commissioners of certain Commonwealth countries will attend the accession council among others.

Prince Charles will succeed to the throne from the moment of death of the Queen. The British throne is never without a monarch. It is likely that Prince Charles will have a new regal name and will not be known as King Charles.

The Queen’s body will lie in the Westminster Hall and the hall will be open for all for a single hour a day.

The funeral is likely to be held 12 days after the death. The coffin carrying the Queen will be carried to Westminster Abbey for a state funeral. The Big Ben will ring once at 9 am on the day and then it will be covered with leather to dampen the tone for the rest of the day.

The Queen will be buried at the King George VI memorial chapel at Windsor Castle.
